Dan LaVon Andersen
Mar 6, 1943 – Sep 2, 2021
Dan LaVon Andersen passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on September 2, 2021. Dan was the last-born son to Emil and Rachel Andersen, on March 6, 1943.

Dan grew up in Sandy, Utah with his five siblings on their family farm. It was a good hard living with all the benefits that farming provides. Every year “Old Doc Henry” was paid with boxes of peaches for providing the families medical care. It was a simpler time.In High School Dan was an accomplished welder and planned that as his future career but in a twist of fate he went on to become an exceptional custom cement finisher in the Salt Lake valley where he continued that trade for nearly 50 years before his retirement. In his earlier days Dan liked to hunt, shoot, and do his own reloading. He was a wonderfully skilled craftsman in woodworking, and leatherwork. Dan was most recognized in his famous cowboy hat, western shirt and handmade leather belt. Also, Dan was an avid fisherman and enjoyed nothing more than camping in his 5th wheel and being outdoors with those he loved. Even if it was a quick day trip, you could find him at a nearby lake with his fishing pole in the water. Some of his frequented spots were, Gooseberry, Electric Lake, and Echo Lake. He loved taking the boat out and spending hours reeling the fish in. Other favorite trips were touring the U.S. but especially driving to Montana to spend time with his sister Rose or down to Fairview, UT to see his brother Chet and wife Betty.
Other interests included his love for gardening and landscaping. Anything from hollyhocks to tomatoes to his parklike setting in the backyard that brought many enjoyable times of BBQ’s and relaxation on the patio.
One thing Dan was known for was his big yellow tractor. He used it for work, help plow snow for the neighbors, hooked the flatbed up for Christmas caroling, but by far the most fun he had was having the grandkids over and driving them around on his tractor. It was always the highlight of his day.
Dan’s greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy whom he married October 9, 1980. He is also survived by his beautiful children LaVon ( Dan ) Newby, Danielle ( Mike ) Utley, Step children: Tony ( Tamara ) Morton, Brenda ( Marty ) O’Bray, Andrea ( Rob ) Lambros, Joe ( Jen ) Morton, brother Chet ( Betty ) Andersen, his 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Extended family: Bunny Morgan and her son Josh Morgan.
*In lieu of flowers, please just spend a day camping or fishing with those you love most.
