Dan Davis Jr was born Dec 25th 1925 in Garland, Arkansas to Dan Davis Sr and Rosa (Dunbar) Davis. He passed away Oct 17th 2019 in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 94.
Married Florence Watley 1953 who passed away in 1998. Dan is survived by sisters Jerlene Bonner and Elenora Washington, daughters Verlene Swader(Georgia), Anita Swader (Colorado), Janet Davis, sons Dan Davis III, and Samual Dean Davis all of Salt Lake. Grandchildren Chanetta Philbertt, Cecily Ray, Justin Davis, Dameon Davis, Royce Davis, London Davis, Shaton Campbell and Taj Kaynor 10 great-grandchildren and 2 great- great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Proceeded in death by father Dan Davis Sr and mother Rosa (Dunbar) Davis, sisters Minnie Lee “little sister” Arkansas, Odessa Cooper Arkansas, Ernestine Post Richmond CA, Lizzie Grant Arkansas, Leola Jameson Bakersfield and step son Fred Bernard Memphis Tennessee
He served time in the US Navy as a cook during WWII and received an honorable discharge April 30 1946. He moved to Salt Lake and worked as a heavy equipment operator at Tooele Army depot. Dan spent many years of an active member of the Beehive Elks Lodge along with his wife Florence Davis where they established many life long friendships. Dan moved to Bakersfield CA to take care of his father Dan Sr, until he passed. When he came back to Salt Lake he lived at Golden Living Assisted Living Center where he was resident of the month more than once and was loved by many. His favorite meal was a hamburger and had them so often, Golden Living named it a Dan Burger. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, family BBQs, and family reunion taking care of his garden where he took great pride in his roses. He enjoyed his music listening to blues some of his favorites were BB King, Bobby Blue Bland and others like Chuck Berry.
Special thanks to Joey and Marvin Washington and Nel Washington to looking after “Uncle Jack” for many years prior to him moving back to Salt Lake.
A viewing will be held Saturday, October 26, 2019, from 10:00-11:00 am at Memorial Mortuary & Cemetery, 6500 So Redwood Road with funeral services following at 11:00 am. Interment to follow.Service Information
