Dale Kirkham Giles

March 28, 1933 — March 27, 2019

Dale returned to his eternal home to reunite with loved ones gone on before on March 27, 2019, a few hours before he was to celebrate his 86th birthday. He was born in Heber City, Utah on March 28, 1933 to John Golden Giles and Mary Louisa Shepherd. In his early 20s, he rode up to Logan with a friend who was registering for college at Utah State University. When they came home, he asked himself “What have I done?” He had registered himself for college, which he had no intention of doing. While there he met his future wife Marva, at a roller-skating rink. She had fallen and split her pants. He and his friend took her and her friend home to change her pants.
He married Marva Rae Rice on January 1, 1958 in Salt Lake City. He started the New Year out right and kept it going for over 61 years. He was sealed to Marva and five of his ten children on September 15, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. The next five were born in the covenant.
Dale was a sketch artist, cartoonist, and painter. He loved jigsaw puzzles, playing the organ and harmonica. He liked playing and watching basketball and baseball. Dale was an avid outdoorsman and loved fishing and hunting with his family and extended family members. He always wanted loaves of a special raisin cake, from his mother’s recipe, to take hunting with him. He was a simple man and led a simple life. He loved his family above all else and was loved by all who knew him. Dale touched all lives for the good. He was a gentle caring man and an example of service to all. He served his country honorably. Dale had many tales of mischief that he did while in the army.
Dale received the ‘Courtesy is Contagious’ award from the Salt Lake Community College, which was presented by Governor Calvin Rampton in April 1976.
Dale was awarded outstanding supervisor from the summer youth camps.
He is survived by his loving wife, Marva, his children: Brenda (Steve) Cross, Ronald (Julie) Giles, Tamra (Jon) Cromer, Jillynn (Harvey) Peterson, Teresa (Mark) Andersen, Brent (Debra) Giles, Curtis (Camille) Giles, Caryn (Billie) Lennon, and Courtney Lisi, as well as 40 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Dale is preceded in death by his father, his mother, his two sisters, Elsie Tuttle and Elaine Dorcheus, two brothers, Charles and Darrell Giles, his child Sheri Lee Giles, and his son-in-law Joseph Lisi.
