D. Craig Hughes, an Army veteran, great-grandfather and longtime Taylorsville resident died unexpectedly December 18, 2013 at home. He was 71. Craig was born January 5, 1942, in Washington, D.C. to Joseph Walden and Lucille Johnson Hughes. The son of an Agency for International Development employee, he grew up in Annandale, Va.; Beirut, Lebanon; and Manila, Philippines. He had three brothers (Kent, Keith and Richard) and one sister (Mary Ann).
When he turned 18, Craig enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served three years in Germany with his twin brother Keith. On April 3, 1965, he married Christine Elizabeth Hamm. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Jordan River Temple. In the early years, they lived in Provo while he attended BYU. They later settled in Taylorsville and raised their three daughters. Craig worked for Warner Truck Center for 37 years, where he was affectionately known as “The Captain.” He poured heart and soul into his work and took pride in a job well done. No shirking! He loved his work! He loved his home! He loved his life and progeny! Craig enjoyed traveling, card games, anything related to American cars and his shiny black Jaguar. He had a quick wit, strong intellect and loved reading from his Kindle on their lovely back porch. Craig is survived by his wife Chris and their daughters Dana (Terry) Ewell, Tina (Brett) Holman and Mindy Bullington. They have eight grandchildren, four great-grandsons (and a fifth due in April 2014) and a large, loving extended family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 28 at 1:00 p.m. in the LDS Church located at 1325 West 5550 South. Friends may call one hour before the service to pay their respects and Friday, December 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Mortuary located at 6500 S. Redwood Road in Taylorsville, Utah; which will be his final resting place.
