Cynthia (Cindy) Rae Sansom Johnson

July 8, 1957 — July 22, 2018

Our loving wife, mother and soon to be grandmother returned to our Heavenly Father July 22, 2018, at age 61, after a long struggle with cancer.
Cindy was born July 8, 1957 to Robert B. Sansom and LaRae Robbins in Salt Lake County, Utah.  As a young girl, she took dance lessons from her mother who taught dancing and loved getting her boogie on.  She especially loved Motown music and would have all the tunes on cassettes, disc and later, her cell phone.  She loved spending family vacations at Lake Powell and at the family cabin in Big Cottonwood Canyon.  She had a great smile and laugh.  She was always willing to help other people and made the best chocolate chip cookies. She graduated from Olympus High School and was in Pep Club.  She graduated magna cum laude from BYU-Hawaii, where she met the love of her life.
At first, she didn’t want to date Charles.  He was only doing his friend a favor, who had mistakenly asked Cindy and another girl out on a date for the same night.  They ended up going on that date and had the best time ever!  On July 14, 1978, they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity.  They were blessed with two sons, Hikimai and Caleb.  She loved and adored her sons.
Cindy loved tennis and especially watching Serena and Venus Williams play in the majors.  She liked travelling and vacationed in Peru, the Caribbean’s, Panama, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the church sites in the USA. She loved hiking and walking to stay physically fit.  She served in the Young Women’s Presidency and had many other church callings. The calling she loved the most was being a primary teacher.  She loved all the children and they loved her.  One of her favorite things to do was playing games with her nieces and nephews.  She would invite them over to the house to play phase 10, skip-bo and snake eyes.  Laughter and screaming was all part of game night and she enjoyed every minute.  She was also an avid puzzler, if that’s a word to describe her.  She would have puzzle pieces everywhere and meticulously worked on it day and night.  It was her therapy from the daily activity.  Of course, her hubby would sneak a piece or two of the puzzle so she couldn’t finish it.  He always surrendered it as part of completing the puzzle and laid stake to its completion.  She wasn’t amused!!
She is survived by her husband, sons, Hikimai (Anne) and Caleb, her siblings, Mark (Kelly), Julie (Kelle), Maria (Ralph), Patti, Steph (Paul) and Jennifer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2018, 10:00 AM at the Sagecrest Ward on 1280 East Turquoise Way (10200 South) in Sandy, Utah.  Friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the same chapel address listed above.  Interment at Holladay Cemetery.
