Crystal Kirby Hutchings

March 31, 1942 — November 14, 2021

Taylorsville, UT- Crystal Kirby-Hutchings passed on November 14th, 2021 with her
family there beside her during her final moments. Born on March 31st, 1942 to Emojean Casto,
and Norman Kirby, she was born in Heber Utah in her childhood home and lived in this state all
of her life. Though Norman chose to not be in her life Emojean’s second husband Lamar Casto
would fill that role as her dad.
When Crystal married Wayne Hutchings on June 5th 1959, they were the type of people
that wanted children but also understood that some children didn’t have parents of their own.
They knew that people from all walks of life needed love, it would come to a point where they
would adopt the siblings Danean Hutchings, and Kevin Hutchings. Even after Crystal and Wayne
separated they would both continue to be good friends and would continue to raise both of their
children to be fine adults and both would give them loving grandchildren as well.
Crystal had a full life, having worked at the Utah Power and Light, after retiring she
would go to work at the Salt Lake Tribune, at both places her profession was utilizing her skills
as a billing analyst, and she would eventually retire from the Salt Lake Tribune as well.
Crystal Hutchings had a love for books, she had an extensive list of books she had read, reading
everything from Murder Mystery, Fantasy Adventure, and even Science Fiction novels. She
enjoyed knitting, crocheting, newspaper comics, and crossword puzzles. While many wouldn’t
admit it she would enjoy scary movies that would put some men to shame.
While Crystal really enjoyed her home, she was very well-traveled, having traveled throughout
the United States and even Mexico. Unfortunately, she was unable to travel through the
California Redwood National Forest. She enjoyed crafts, arts, history, the spiritual sides of the
world, and nature to a degree. Her favorite animal would be owls if her knick-knacks are any
indication.
While she has departed from this world she has left great people such as her daughters Danean
Hutchings, (Susan Harmon), Chantel Dale, sister Susan Brandt, and her grandchildren, Christin
(Tony DiFiore,) Kody and Linsey Hutchings, Christapher Dizon, (Nicole Trethewey), Nichole
Kehr (Dan), Alexandrea Harmon, Brian, and Jessica Dale. Crystal also had a total of eleven
great-grandchildren. She also has numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by her mother Emojean and Step-Father Lamar Casto. Her life partner is
Rebecca Scribner. Her son Kevin Wayne Hutchings. As well as her Step-brother Alvin Ty Casto.
Crystal’s family will be holding a celebration of life and memorial for her in early 2022.
