Cristie Clark Carter passed away surrounded by her family on March 15th, 2024. As she passed, a radiant light entered the world of the spirits as she begins another phase of her eternal progression, leaving us to lovingly carry on without her for a short time here in mortality.
Cristie was born on August 15, 1953 to Nathan George Clark Jr. and Bonnie DeAnn Price. She grew up on 1800 South in Bountiful, the oldest of six children. She graduated from Bountiful High School in 1971 and from BYU in 1974 with a major in Speech and Dramatic Arts and a minor in English. While in a play at BYU, she met another Speech and Dramatic Arts major/English minor (she with a major role, he with three lines, two of which were cut) and they fell in love. They were married for time and eternity in the Los Angeles Temple in December,1973.
Cristie and Jerry started building a life together in Los Angeles where they bought their first home and had three children. After being transferred to Philadelphia, they had another child, and were then transferred again, this time to Denver, where they had two more kids. In another transfer back to Philadelphia they had their seventh child, and with one last move to Salt Lake City, Cristie brought their eighth child into the family. She always said her family was her life’s work and her children, grandchildren, and now great grands brought unspeakable joy into her life.
Cristie is a light. She has a brilliant testimony of the Lord Jesus Christ and of His gospel. She shared it in person, on social media, and her life itself was a witness to Him. She served faithfully and lovingly in many callings, some as a leader and in all as a minister. A couple of highlights was serving a full time member/leader support mission in the Salt Lake City East Mission and as an ordinance worker with her husband in the Salt Lake Temple. She was kind and wise and fun, and was willing to do whatever the Lord asked of her including enduring her final trial with dignity and with faith.
Cristie is a gatherer. Her friends and family were naturally drawn to her home and gathering family at the beach every summer was a priority. She would prepare for and look forward to our beach trips for months. We will miss and will never forget her radiant smile, her hearty laugh, her optimism, and her unshaken faith in her Savior Jesus Christ.
She is survived by her loving husband Gerald B. Carter Jr., her eight children, Samuel (Melissa); Alison (Doug Brasher); Katie (Danny Nydegger); Edward (Valerie); Laurel (Johnny Fortner); David (Kelli); Joseph (Lynda); and Elizabeth (Dylan Pratt); thirty- two loving grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her father Nathan George Clark Jr. and five siblings. She is preceded in death by her grandson, Wyatt Carter and her mother Bonnie Clark.
