Tingen, Courtney Marie, 29, died on September 3, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Courtney was born an Army brat in Fayetteville, NC on October 5, 1986 to Emily (Tingen) Averette and William Anthony Tingen. It was the only time in her life that she arrived early anywhere.
Courtney’s life was bright, colorful and unique and her tattoos were her life story highlighting her favorite things – art, music, animals and Pirates of the Caribbean. She tried her hand at many different jobs but her path, and her love of animals, always led her back to being a vet tech.
One of Courtney’s favorite quotes was from Grey’s Anatomy, “It’s not about what you look like, or your job or how successful you are, it’s about having people in your life who you love and who love you. That’s all that matters.” Courtney is survived by William Anthony and Ann Tingen of Fayetteville, NC; Emily and Harold “Oscar” Averette of White Lake, NC; Godmother Sharon Tibbett; brothers Nicholas Tibbett, James Averette, Christopher Averette, and Allen Bass; sisters Kristy Tibbett, Amber Averette and Mercedes Labbe; and grandmothers Peggy H. Wilkinson of Richmond, VA and Linda Wharton of Fredericksburg, VA along with her beloved Aunts, Uncles, Cousins, Nephews and Special Friends. Courtney was preceded in death by her grandfather’s William (Bill) Wilkinson and Jim Wharton.
When a FaceBook question game asked what song she wanted played at her funeral, Courtney answered “I am not sure…but a pretty one…I want people to celebrate my life…not mourn my death.” Celebrations will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah and Fayetteville, North Carolina at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local animal rescue organization.
