Corey Westbrook

October 15, 1961 — March 26, 2021

Corey Westbrook passed away suddenly and unexpectedly from complications due to COVID-19 in the early morning hours of March 26, 2021 at Intermountain Medical Center in Murray, Utah. As a family, we are devastated at the loss of a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.
Corey was born on October 15, 1961 to Sonia (Petersen) and Cornelius Westbrook at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was the baby of the family joining his big siblings, Craig and Cynthia (who he lovingly called “Sis”). He was a proud Granite High School Farmer where he was an outstanding basketball player and was also seminary president. As a young boy, he also loved being a magician and did magic for many years. After graduating from high school, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Honduras. He spoke fondly of the people he met and served with there. He also enjoyed the trip back home with his parents when they came to pick him up after he completed his mission.
Corey met and married Lisa Kay Olson and they had three children together; Megan, Michael Corey, and Maddyson Lee. Although they later divorced, Corey and Lisa were united in their love for their children. He also walked with his wife, Jana, and his daughters in a breast cancer walk in remembrance of Lisa after she passed away in 2018.
As so many people have often said, Corey’s children were his world. He would drop anything for his kids at any time and would call and check-in with them weekly, even when they became adults. He had a gentle love for each of them and never hesitated to express how much he loved them. Every parting came with a hug and an “I love you.”
Corey later met and married Jana Farnsworth Andersen. Already having five children of her own (Alan, Devin, Charlotte, Tyler, and Jason), the two groups combined and became a “Brady Bunch Family.” Jana was a great match for Corey and they complimented one another’s personalities well, even if he was a Ute fan and she, a true-blue BYU.
Corey was a hard worker throughout his life. He graduated from the University of Utah and worked in the insurance industry, Farm Bureau, and FHP. For the past 22 years, he worked with Walker Mortgage with his brother-in-law, Terry Walker. The two of them had a wonderful friendship and would often spend time laughing, joking, and just talking together in the office. Terry was a great support to Corey throughout his life.
Corey did all he could to help and serve the people around him, especially the people in his ward and stake. He was loved by all of the members there. He played the piano beautifully on multiple occasions at church. He also had a beautiful singing voice. Corey spoke of his testimony of Jesus Christ and his belief that there is a life after death. He had an interest in family history work and was proud of his Dutch and Danish heritage. He had recently begun working more on family history with his oldest daughter before he became ill.
Family was at the center of Corey’s life. In recent years, he was a dedicated care-giver for his mother as she became older and suffered the effects of dementia. He spent many hours on phone calls and visiting with her, always brightening her days until the end of her life. As “empty-nesters”, Corey and Jana enjoyed going on trips with Jana’s siblings, going on drives, and spending time together at home. Corey also loved the time he spent with his grandchildren. He loved holding the babies and making the toddlers and older kids laugh and smile. In recent years, he began going by the nickname of “Grandpa Bear” which was the nickname his father was also called as a grandfather.
We are heartbroken that Corey is no longer physically here with us. His death reminds us of the fragileness of life and how important it is to live as he did, with a focus on the things that matter most. Corey’s kindness, goodness, and love live on in the lives of his beloved family members who are left behind; his wife, Jana F. Westbrook. Children; Megan (Karen) Westbrook, Michael (Lindsey) Westbrook, Maddy (Taylor) Hildreth, Alan (Malika) Andersen, Devin (Sarah) Andersen, Charlotte (Ben) Allsop, Tyler (Annie) Andersen, and Jason Andersen. Grandchildren; Ellery, Brynlee, Avery, Alex, Bennett, Timothy, Troy, Liam, Katelyn, Miles, Jane, Halli, Hayden, Will, and Grant (due later this year). Siblings; Cynthia (Terry) Walker and Craig Hilliard. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, in-laws, cousins, and many friends. Preceded in death by his parents; Sonia Viola Westbrook and Cornelius Westbrook. Also preceded in death by his former spouse, Lisa.
