Connie was born September 17, 1950 to Ernest Christian Clayton and Barbara Ann Berkley Clayton. She was the second of their five children. Her full siblings include Russell, Susan, and Peggy and half siblings Roy or Ray Davis from her mother’s previous marriage and Crystal Gafa from her father’s marriage. Parents have passed away, Connie passed away 7/1/22.
Connie was admitted to USDC when she was 10 years old.
Connie had quite the big personality. She would communicate quite well by signing, and everyone would know how she was feeling by laughing, smiling, or hollering if she was displeased.
Connie had a great sense of humor, she would often tease her staff and would communicate she was going to “get them in trouble”. Connie loved to have little toys or something to hold on to. She would sometimes tease the staff by hiding her toys, and tell the staff she does not have one, so they will get her a new one. If the staff did her hair, she would pull at her hair to tease the staff. She definitely was a jokester.
Connie enjoyed music, she would hold the musical toys and shakers and move to music.
She loved holding hands, visiting with the bunnies and ponies, going to dances, and snuggling in her blanket. She did a lot of fun things in her life like; trips to the State Fair, Festival of Trees, the Aquarium, Disney on Ice, and the Hogle Zoo.
Connie was so close to some of her roommates and staff that they were like sisters. She had many friends and loved ones at USDC. Connie touched the hearts of all those who knew her. Connie was an angel sent to us to teach us the most valuable lessons of humanity, service, love, and strength.Service Information
