Colleen Lou Payne

April 21, 1937 — March 28, 2016

Please do not mourn my passing as I had a fantastic and wonderful life! I was lucky to have loving parents, and Weldon my true love of 51 years.  We were blessed with 4 children, Gordon, Gayle, Gary (Deidra) & Tammy. We also had 3 wonderful grandchildren Makyla, Katrina, Ashley & one great dog Cocoa.  In honoring my wishes there will be no funeral services.  God bless you all!  -Co-
Colleen passed away on Monday March 28, 2016 at the age of 79. Born in 1937 to Wayne Oliver Davies & Doris Strong Davies in Salt Lake City, Utah. She had a strong sense of independence & spontaneity that she shared with her family regularly.  Her children fondly remember the late night drives to the upper avenues to watch the storms roll in across the Wasatch front on a regular basis when they were young.  When her children had difficult decisions, she always pushed them to make their own choices without being influenced by others.
After being a stay at home mom until her youngest reached kindergarten, she gleefully re-entered the workforce working for Litton Industries. She was among only a handful of very talented women serving their country creating the gyros and silicon accelerometers the size of a pin head for the LN-200AHRS/missile systems.
Among her greatest pleasures in life were travel and the company of good friends & family. She was an avid sportswoman from an early age and later in life became one of the best fly fisherwoman among her friends at the Ladies Angle Fishing Society with her award winning flies that she painstakingly made by hand.
Another wonderful gift she left her friends & family was the beautiful art that she created throughout her life. She had many interests from oil, sketching, needle point, to some of the most intricate leather work art that you rarely see now.  She touched many lives in big & small ways & will be missed greatly. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Colleen’s memory to the Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease Foundations. Memories can be shared at www.memorialutah.com Funeral Directors: Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary.
