Clyde Gwynn

Our tender, loving father and grandfather died peacefully in his sleep on July 20, 2014. Cleon was born on January 1, 1919, in Bountiful, Utah, to George William and Martha Brauer Gwynn. He married Elizabeth Dorothy Fisher February 18, 1947. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on November 18, 1949. Cleon spent 65 wonderful years with his sweetheart Dorothy before she preceded him in death nearly two years ago. Our father could build anything, and he did, from his home in North Salt Lake to much of the furniture and cabinetry in it; and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t fix. He served his country with honor in World War II, starting out with the horse drawn artillery in the Aleutian Islands, and later fought in Italy. He worked as a milkman, a police officer for North Salt Lake City, and retired after a 32 year career at the University of Utah. Cleon was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he served in numerous callings throughout his life. Everyone loved Cleon. He made friends everywhere he went. He was a perfect example of what a caring and loving father ought to be. We all loved him very much, and we know he loved us. Cleon is survived by his children Barbara (Larry) Shingleton, Dianne (Brent) Rose, and Jerry (Heather) Gwynn, and 47 grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Hank Gwynn, Jewell Gwynn and Arnold Gwynn, and his sister Phyllis Paschal. He was also preceded in death by his parents and 10 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the Orchard 3rd Ward Chapel, 261 East Center Street, North Salt Lake, Utah. Viewings will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2014, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., and also one hour prior to the service, both at the church. Interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah. We are so grateful to the attentive and caring staff at Legacy Village in Layton, Utah, and Aspire Hospice for taking such good care of our dad.
