Clifford Willes Hoskisson

February 21, 1939 — October 30, 2020

Our husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend, Clifford Willes Hoskisson, 81, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2020 at St. Joseph’s Villa in Salt Lake City, UT. Cliff was born on February 21, 1939 in Salt Lake City to Clifford Hoskisson and Madelyn Faye Willes. He was the oldest of three children.
Dad loved to swim and swam for Cyprus High School. He was like a fish in the water and taught his children to love to swim, too. He had a zest for life and did everything with his whole heart. He loved to travel, too. He made sure he and his family went on a vacation every year. California was a particularly favorite place to go as was the Oregon coast. As his mobility declined, he was even able to take a cruise to Alaska. He enjoyed each, and every trip. Most of the time, the trips were road trips. He loved to drive. Us kids would sleep in the back of the station wagon or in the camper. Dad would get up very early, like 3 or 4 am, and start driving. By the time we woke up, we would be half-way or more to our destination. These vacations instilled in each of his children the love of travel. Dad and mom would also travel to visit kids and grandkids for special occasions. He tried to make it a point to be there for his family and tried to visit as often as possible. Even when his body would not allow him to travel, he wanted to go anyway.
He met his future wife, Linda Lurice Liedtke, while in high school and they were married for 61 wonderful years. They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 3, 1959. They were the parents of six children: Jeff (Christie) Hoskisson, Brian Keith (Jen) Hoskisson, Sherri Hoskisson, Suzette Hoskisson Wilson, Kent Hoskisson, and Jill Hoskisson. They were the proud grandparents of 14: Abby Hoskisson (Eric Foster), Benjamin (Heather) Hoskisson, Doug Jacobs, Emily (Nate) Jensen, Breanne (Derek) Hendricks, Lizzie (Luke) Justice, Blake Hoskisson, Sara Jacobs, Amber (Charlie) Propst, Haley Hoskisson, Quinn Hoskisson, Cameron Hoskisson, Aubrey Hoskisson, and Colton Hoskisson, and 11 great grandchildren: Hunter, Lily, Riley, Ellie, Allisyn, Gavin, Fredrich, Gendryck, Hazel, Broly, and Natalie.
Dad worked for Publishers Press helping get many books printed. He loved his job and was a great supervisor. He would critique the printing and make sure everything was perfect.
Dad was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and lived with it for almost 50 years. Despite the disease, dad continued to live his life to the fullest. He would work in the yard, mowing the lawn, planting flowers and vegetables, and weeding until his body would no longer let him. It was one of his other loves. He and mom had one of the best-looking yards on the street thanks to dad’s efforts.
Dad was an optimist. Nobody can remember dad ever complaining about having MS or what it was doing to his body. He took everything in stride and was encouraging to all.
He was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He loved family history work and spent more than 20 years in his calling as a Family History Consultant.
Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Madelyn Hoskisson. He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his brother David (Deanna) Hoskisson and sister Cynthia (Mike) Smith.
