Clifford Millward

Clifford Nicholas Millward, age 79, passed away on January 22, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on August 10, 1933 in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, to Clifford William Millward and Cleo Hoffman Millward. He married Arlene Elizabeth Craytor on November 8, 1958 in New York. They later divorced but remained close friends until her passing in 2001. He was born and raised in the Salvation Army and remained firm in his faith in Christ throughout his life.Cliff was an educator by profession. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Trumpet and Education from the Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, Ohio and later went on to earn a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Utah which he used to teach music to elementary and junior high students throughout the Salt Lake Valley. He was also a member of the American Federation of Teachers. His real passion, however, was in his music. He played trumpet for the New York Staff Band, West Point Band, and the Utah Symphony. He was a co-founder and conductor of the Murray Concert Band and has been a member and contributor of the American West Symphony, Sandy Symphony, and West Valley Symphony for many years. He had the honor of conducting many of these symphonies during his tenure. He spent the majority of his life writing musical compositions which have been played around the world and have earned him multiple recognitions and awards. He also had a love of computers and spent his spare time as a member and president of the Utah Computer Society, and served as Editor for the Utah Blue Chips magazine for 21 years. Cliff is survived by his three children, Scott (Theresa) Millward, Allison (John) Librett, Ryan (Camille) Millward, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jackie and his son Vaughn Arthur.Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah. The viewing prior to the funeral will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3115 East 7800 South, Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Family and friends are welcome to visit at 3:30 p.m. following the service.
