Born in a farmhouse in Jasper, MN, the first of three children born to Henry William and Martha Alvina Kahler Pieper. 1943 graduate of Jasper H.S. Married Frank Roemeling in May 1944. He passed soon after. Mom moved to Bremerton, WA at age 20 to work in the shipyards as part of the war effort. She met her sailor, our dad, Elwyn L. Hess in June 1945 and they were married on July 28, 1945. They lived in Jasper and Luverne, MN before moving to Salt Lake City and finally settling to raise the family in Kearns, UT. They were married for 60 years before Dad’s passing in Jan. 2006.
Loving, ever giving and selfless companion, mom, grandma and friend. Mom always gave of her love, time, and possessions freely without hesitation or expectation. The communities she resided in were enriched by her charitable contributions, most especially the Kearns Food Pantry where she volunteered for many years. A gardener extraordinaire, she won awards in garden clubs for her many beautiful flowers. Active and devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and later St. Matthew’s, she enjoyed fellowship with her many friends there.
Saying see you later are her children, son Michael (Jane) Hess, daughters Linda Sandry, Diane Chadek, Susan Higley and Cindy Lassig; 19 grandchildren, 36 great grands and brother Karol Pieper.
Welcoming her home are her parents, husbands, brother Ralph Pieper, granddaughter Jessica Higley and great granddaughter Mariah Ponce.
Special thanks to Holladay Care Center and Symbii Hospice for their compassion, Ed and Judie Ellingson for their unfailing friendship, and our dearest Cindy, whose loving care of and devotion to Mom and Dad leave us all eternally grateful for her presence in our lives.
“May the longtime sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you guide you on your way.” Faithful servant of the Lord your reward awaits you. Go in peace. We love you infinitely!
