Cleone Elva Moll Clayton
June 20, 1940 ~ January 28, 2021
Cleone Elva Moll Clayton, “Pete”, age 80, passed away on January 28, 2021, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on June 20, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ernest Moll and Elsie Jane Thomas. She married Paul William Clayton on January 9, 1959.
Cleone was our loving mother, wife, grandma and friend. Her greatest joy on earth was raising her family and experiencing life with her closet family and friends by her side. She was an example to us all of what unconditional love meant but was also not afraid to tell you to, “Go eat rocks!” if something wasn’t right. She spent 25 years working for Pyke Manufacturing (Pykettes) as an order entry clerk, where she made many lifelong friends. Cleone enjoyed bowling, crocheting, embroidery, word searches, puzzles and crafting with her girls. She loved playing pinochle with her group of friends and card games with anyone who would play. We will never forget the humble, yet mischievous twinkle that would appear in her eye as she would lay down the winning hand. She loved spending the summers camping and fishing with her husband, Paul. They would often take their grandkids with them on their on their adventures to Fish Lake and enjoyed spoiling them every chance they got. Watching old movies was one of her favorite pastimes. Especially if one of her “boyfriends”, John Wayne, Clark Gable or George Clooney, was in it. She loved listening to oldies music and teaching everyone “the twist”. Hosting and celebrating birthdays and holidays with her family was her absolute favorite – well, that and indulging in dark chocolate and ice cream when no one was looking. We will dearly miss our sweet “Grandma Pete” – our anchor, our biggest cheerleader and the center of our lives.
Cleone is survived by her brother, Blaine (Kathy) Moll; daughter, Ione (Sidney) Gray; son, Steven (Cindy) Clayton; daughter, Irene (Lee) Scott; her grandkids, Tristan (Koby), Sheldon, Austin (Holly), Paul (Carolyn), Eric (Jenny), Emilie, Cara (Joe); great-grandkids, Teagun, Aspen, Emma, Illyana, Grayson and Ford.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Moll and Elsie Jane Thomas; brother, Ernest C. Moll; half-sisters Marjorie Moll Solomon and Eileen Sprague; and husband, Paul William Clayton.
