Christopher Scott Wightman

December 9, 1962 — January 1, 2020

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, dad, grandpa, brother, son, uncle, teacher and friend. Chris passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully at home in the early morning of January 1, 2020.
Christopher was born on December 9, 1962 in Salt Lake City, UT to John (Jack) Alden Wightman and Eleanor Collin Faulkner. Chris attended school in Las Vegas, NV and Salt Lake City, graduating from Skyline High School in May of 1980. He went on to serve an LDS mission in Holland from 1984-1986. He spent many years working as a shoe expert at ZCMI and Nordstrom in order to put himself through college at the University of Utah where he would graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts.
Chris began his teaching career at Hunter Junior High School in the fall of 2000, after which he moved on to teach art at Wasatch Junior High for 13 years. He was currently sharing his love of art at Skyline High School. Chris made unforgettable connections with many students and their parents throughout the years. It was not uncommon to run into former and current students wherever he went. Even outside of the classroom, there was always a “hey, Mr. Wightman” to be heard.
Chris married Aimee, his best friend and true love of his life, on August 4, 2007. Together they share four wonderful children and two beautiful grandchildren. His greatest joy in life was being a loving husband, dad and grandpa.
Chris was a lover of so many things. He enjoyed long road trips & vacationing with his family, painting, drawing, teaching, bird watching, long walks with Aimee, movies & music of all genres, drinking fine whiskey, patio sitting on Friday afternoons, a good cigar once in a while, good coffee, diet coke, family time, entertaining, shopping, charcuterie, dancing, sushi, craft beer, darts and foosball. One of Chris’ true passions was football and being a season ticket holder for the Utah UTES football team. Chris and Aimee also spent countless weekend date nights with their best friends Barbara, Jennifer and Justin who also double as family.
Chris is survived by his wife Aimee, sons Adam (Kaedyn), Tad (Heather), Nicholas (Julia), daughter Kaitlin (Austin), grandchildren Cooper & Charlie, ten brothers & sisters, each of whom he had exceptionally unique relationships with, numerous nieces & nephews who were more like siblings, a multitude of extended family members, along with many friends, students and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A private family viewing will be held on Monday, January 6, 2020. A celebration of life will be held in his honor at the Three Fountains West Clubhouse, 5050 South 680 East Murray, Utah 84107 on Friday, January 10, 2020, with family hours from 2-4 in the afternoon and public hours from 5-7 that evening.
