Christopher John Grable, born September 1, 1953, passed away peacefully at home July 24, 2024 due to complications from cancer. Chris grew up along the beaches in Southern California but when he moved to Utah in the 70’s he fell in love with the mountains and never left. He married Robyn Hansen on January 18, 1980 and together they built their home in Taylorsville, Utah where he stayed until her passing in 2019.
Dad was the ultimate busy body and lived life on his own terms. Nobody ever told Dad what to do, he did it his own way! When he came home from work he would often be seen around the neighborhood helping neighbors with leaves in their yards, fixing broken parts, or tinkering with tools in the garage. If something was broken he would fix it. He loved wood carving and would often show up on neighbors’ porches to give them a carving of their name to hang in their home. But planting a garden full of pumpkins for the grandkids was his favorite outdoor project.
At night you would often find him sitting in his recliner watching John Wayne movies or Walt Disney Classics. If he wasn’t watching movies, he was probably sitting there with his headphones and CD player listening to oldies music, typically the Beach Boys, Osmonds, or Carpenters. And during football season he would lay down on the couch each Saturday to listen to the University of Utah football games on the radio. He spent many years with the Scouts, teaching them how to carve wood, how to build a fire, or what equipment is needed for camping. He had everything when it came to being prepared and always made sure his equipment or tools were available for anyone who needed to borrow them.
More than anything else, Dad loved his family and his dogs. Especially the grandchildren. In his later years he found his greatest joy in ordering new little toys or trinkets for the grandchildren and having them come to his house to open them with him. He loved to sit and watch the grandchildren, tell laffy taffy jokes with them, or see pictures of the recent trips they went on. The hardest part of his sickness was that he could no longer help his children or take his Collie, Zeva, for a walk. Throughout his life he worked hard to make sure his kids had the necessary skills to take care of themselves and especially to provide for their own families.
Chris was preceded in death by his wife, Robyn, and his dad, Robert. He is survived by his mom, Patricia, his children, grandchildren, and his best furry companion Zeva. Private graveside services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Estates. A special thank you goes to his nurse, Sarah, and the team at Solstice Home Health.
