Christine Koetje Schulz passed away peacefully on January 19, 2025, in Murray, Utah. Born in Nieuwe Pekela, Groningen, Netherlands, to Jantje Westerbaan and Hendrik Koetje, Christine’s life was a beautiful testament to resilience, strength, and unconditional love.
In 1951, Christine embarked on a courageous journey, emigrating from Holland to America to build a new life. In 1961, she proudly became an American citizen, a milestone that reflected her determination to embrace her new home. Following this, she chose the name Christine, symbolizing a fresh chapter and her bold spirit.
Christine married Harrold Schulz on October 15, 1966. Together, they shared a life of companionship, adventure, and unwavering respect. They loved traveling, often returning to Europe to connect with their roots, and filled their days with music, dancing, and joy.
Christine was a woman of fierce determination, sharp wit, and deep compassion. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures—knitting, puzzling, cooking, and reading one book after another. Music and movement brought her great joy, whether it was dancing to ABBA with Harrold or staying active through swimming and exercise. She cultivated lifelong friendships, especially with her cherished “Dutchman’s” circle, and brought love and warmth to everyone she met.
In her later years, Christine moved to the Abbington Assisted Living Center, where she reluctantly adjusted but soon became a beloved member of the community. Her warmth, humor, and kindness endeared her to residents and staff alike, creating bonds she cherished deeply.
Christine is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harrold, who passed on August 14, 2019, as well as her parents, Jantje and Hendrik; her brothers; and many dear friends who passed before her. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is now reunited with them in a beautiful, long-awaited homecoming.
She is survived by her children: Marian (Jim) Julian, Jeanett Smokoff, Cindy (Harold) Hurst, Rodney (Heidi) Gavin, Lynn Schulz, and Roy (Merilee) Schulz. Her legacy continues through her 29 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, who carry forward her love, strength, and memory.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to Elevation Hospice and the staff at Abbington Assisted Living for their exceptional care and support during Christine’s final years.
A viewing will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary, followed by a funeral service from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. With interment after the funeral service.
Christine’s life was a reflection of courage, grace, and love without condition. She taught those around her to embrace challenges with strength, seek joy in the little things, and love fiercely and without limit. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
