With a heavy and sad heart we announce the passing of one of the Great Guys, Chris Margetts. He fought hard against the nasty Big C, but managed to escape its grip on Wednesday 10/8/2014.
First and only child born September 21, 1946 to Harvey and Thelma Phelps Margetts, and christened Ronald Gene Margetts. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965, so he could decide how best to serve his country, instead of waiting for his number to come up. He was trained and served honorably as a Huey Crew Chief in Vietnam, along with other exceptional young men and women. Some didn’t make it back, and those that did carried their experiences home. He was awarded a Purple Heart and numerous other accolades. He was discharged in 1968. Retired from Western/Delta Airlines in 2001 after 33 years.
Chris had a number of loves in his life, but none matched his obsession with the CORVETTE. As a young man he got bit early and hard. He proudly owned and burned the rubber on every model of Corvette ever made, about 40 or so when we counted them up! He was a proud founding member of the Utah Corvette Association (UCA) with those that enjoyed the thrill of an open throttle on a long straight or curvy highway. Many cruises, car shows, and laughs were enjoyed. Also a proud member of American Legion Post 112.
Chris married Teresa Wakeman on May 8, 2009 in Las Vegas, NV surrounded by family and friends. They realized their dream of owning a beautiful get-away home on the 5th Hole of the Canyons in Mesquite, NV. Incredible friendships found and good times enjoyed.
He is survived by his wife Teresa, children Camille and Christopher. Step-daughter Kayelon (Cody) and Special Papa to Jaxson and Carson. Uncle Jack Phelps and Cuz/Brother Joey Phelps.
A Graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 14th at Camp Williams 17111 Camp Williams Rd with full military honors. An open house to be held at his home following services.
In Lieu of flowers please take a loved one out for a big steak and a tall cold beer. A special thanks to the VA and St. Marks Hospital, and the incredible angels at Encompass Hospice.
