Cherrell K. S. Jackman

November 3, 1929 — July 5, 2020

Cherrell Kathryn Sarah Jackman, age 90, passed away Sunday, July 5, 2020. She was born November 3, 1929, to James and Agnes Bishop in Holy Cross Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah.
Cherrell, an adored wife, mother, sister, grandma, great-grandma and caregiver, will be lovingly remembered by those who knew her. She has joined the family and friends who preceded her and who have been waiting patiently for her to be with them.
Cherrell spent her life in the service for others — her calling was nursing. She excelled at all aspects of her profession. She began her career in the Critical Care/Intensive Care Unit at LDS Hospital. Her passion for knowledge led her to seek challenges. She assisted Cardiac Care Teams, Burn Units, and she managed the first Cardiac Rehab Unit west of the Mississippi at Cottonwood Hospital. She retired after 46 years of nursing service, but continued to help build Same-day Surgery programs for Intermountain Health Care.
Cherrell graduated from East High School in 1947. She earned her R.N Nursing Degree from the University of Utah in 1950.
She married Bert L. Scheller in 1951. She continued to work and raise her children Jill and Mark in their home in Granger, Utah. She later married Lynn W. Oyler in 1961, continued working, and raised Jennifer and Lynn in Sugarhouse and Holladay, Utah.
After a divorce, Cherrell reunited with Dale, who was a friend of 29 years, and he was able to settle the gypsy in her. Dale — the love of her life — and Cherrell were married on June 11, 1982. They were inseparable from that day forward. Together they wandered the red rock hills of Southern Utah, were they built “The Cabin,” in Leeds, Utah. Friends and family were always welcomed and filled their lives with chaos and love. After 12 years in the cabin, “Little Momma” and the “Old Dude” moved back to Salt Lake and enjoyed their twilight years.
Cherrell is survived by her brother, James W. Bishop, her children: Jill Ann Lee, Mark D. Scheller, Jennifer Ivie Sharpe, and Lynn W. Oyler. She embraced Dale L. Jackman’s children: Karen Rees, Dan Jackman, Laurie Coons, Diane Bott, Douglas Jackman, David Jackman, and Steven Jackman. Cherrell is also survived by 25 grand children, numerous great grandchildren, friends, and neighbors whom she loved.
She is preceded in death by her husband Dale L. Jackman, her parents James W. Bishop and Agnes V. Bishop and her grandmother Sarah Bishop.
