Cherie Darlene Hutchison Davies

March 9, 1935 — October 26, 2024

Mom passed from this life early in the morning of October 26, 2024.

On March 9, 1935 at 9:45 p.m. Olive Mercy Morris and Harry Walker Hutchison welcomed their fourth child and only daughter into the world. They named her Cherie Darlene Hutchison. She arrived prematurely and weighed in at only 2 lbs, 8 oz. The doctor who delivered her at home declared that she would not live through the night and left. A sweet and determined midwife declared that this little baby would indeed live and helped tend to the tender baby securing milk from other nursing mothers in the area. Cherie was born fighting to stay alive and remained a force to be reckoned with throughout her nearly 90 years of life.

Her parents moved from Salt Lake City to live in Provo, UT while she was in elementary school. Her early life, along with her parents and four brothers, was challenging. The many trials she faced helped mold her into a strong-willed woman and a survivor. After graduating from Provo High Cherie moved to Salt Lake where she lived with her Grandma Lillian Morris and attended beauty school to become a hairdresser. During this time she met the man she would soon marry on a blind date.

She married her sweetheart, Harry LaVore Davies on July 20, 1957 in Provo, Utah. Their union was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on July 19, 1963. Harry and Cherie lived all their married life in a beautiful little home in Kearns, Utah where they raised four children. She was a wonderful wife and mother. She woke up every workday early to fix Dad a hearty, nutritious breakfast, pack his lunch and get him off to work before 5:30 a.m. She kept a spotless home, was a tremendous cook, cut and styled her husband’s and children’s hair and made a little bit extra money doing perms, cuts and styles for many ladies in our home.

Mom made sure that her kids always looked clean and sharp, including using her skills as a seamstress to sew many beautiful clothes, especially for her beloved daughter. She read stories to her kids before bed, served as a Cub Scout Den Leader for all three boys, took us to Church, taught us to pray and have faith, served in many Church callings including as teacher and Presidency member several times in Primary and Relief Society. She served in the PTA at our Elementary School including as President.

She identified each of her children’s unique needs and did everything within her power to help us with our individual challenges. She made sure that we had swimming lessons, family summer passes to the Kearns Pool, tutoring and other specialized help when necessary and, along with Dad, taught us correct principles.

She is a faithful, lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She provided selfless and tireless service, not only to family but to relatives, friends, Ward members and neighbors. She kept the family finances in order and worked part-time jobs as the kids got a little older.

She and Dad loved good music and so the house was always filled with the sound of records playing. They supported their children in all of our activities and were always in attendance at school functions, Pack Meetings, performances of all kinds and put up with drums and trumpets and even a teenage rock band blasting through their small home. They did not complain and loved the bustling and often noisy activity. We are truly blessed to have had the parents we did.

Now Harry and Cherie are reunited! Her spirit eyes can see and her ears can hear. She is also in the now in the longed for company of her very best friend – her Mom, Olive. Life here will sure be an adjustment with her absence, but we are joyful that she’s returned to her heavenly home.

She is survived by sons Edwin (Barbara), Paul (Ursula) and Alan, her cherished daughter Willow Olive Davies (Gloria) and grandkids Christy Fillerup, Brent (Melinda) Davies, Eric (Jeesoo) Davies, Jessica (Ryan) Hunt, Amy (James) Moseley, Brady Davies, Nicholas Broadbent and Alex Broadbent. She will also be missed by 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and their wives.

The family expresses their deepest, heartfelt gratitude to everyone who loved and was dear friends to Cherie, particularly to a few special ladies - you know who you are!  Also, the staff at Summit Senior Living in Kearns have provided tender, loving service to Mom for the last five years of her life. Thank you!
