Cheri Jean Shepherd

July 9, 1954 — August 3, 2021

Heaven gained a beautiful angel on August 3, 2021. Our sweet wife, mother, grandmother and friend Cheri Jean Shepherd passed away. She is an amazing and wonderful example of perseverance, patience and pure love. She fought stage four liver cirrhosis that came from years of battling diabetes, handled it like a champ and exceeded her life expectancy. She had many health challenges throughout her years and always dealt with them in the most positive way and best attitude. During her early years she was a meticulous bookkeeper, with a degree in accounting. She met the love of her life, Michael John Shepherd and was married on July 16, 1976. She had three children that she raised with love and decided that she would find ways to provide for the family so she could stay home with them. She ran a home daycare for 15 years and helped raise lots of children from 6 weeks to 6 years old. She cared for them like they were her own, she loved children and would drop anything for a good snuggle. She was an amazing seamstress specializing in dance costumes, wedding gowns and Halloween costumes. She would sew through the night on many occasions to meet deadlines. For the last 10 years she loved running the snack bar at Gate’s Field, visiting with all the fans and watching the Marshalls play.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife and dedicated mother, selflessly giving and providing for them in every way. She loved being a grandmother to Emma, Eliza, Addie, Colt, MJ and Hadlee. She was always in the audience or on the side lines supporting them in their dance performances, soccer and baseball games. Cheri was an instant friend and always had a smile to share. She will be greatly missed but we are so grateful she is no longer in pain.  We would like to thank her dear friend Amanda who faithfully visited and brought her so much joy.   Cheri outlived her life expectancy due to many wonderful doctors, Dr. Annemarie Edwards was considered one of her greatest friends.  We also appreciate the great care that was given through Hospice, especially her nurse Austin.
Cheri is preceded in death by her father and mother, Stanley Kay and Etta Jean Beckstead, and Cheryl Beckstead (sister in law). She is survived by her husband Michael, her children: Shelli (Scott) Erekson, Chad (Kylee) Shepherd and Matthew Shepherd. Siblings: Gary Beckstead, Lyn (Bruce) Wilson and Tami (Brett) Vanwagoner. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 9, 2021 at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary (3115 E 7800 S, Cottonwood Heights, UT). Viewing at 12:30 pm with a service to follow at 2:00 pm. There will be a celebration of life held Monday afternoon / evening after the internment. 10862 South Jacks Pride Court in South Jordan.
