Chanley Remo Bredsguard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, peacefully passed away on August 7, 2024, in South Jordan, Utah surrounded by his family. He was 87 years old.
Born on April 10, 1937, Chanley was the seventh child of Hilda Warenski Bredsguard and Remo Leo Bredsguard. Growing up in ‘The Little Green Valley’, Monroe, Utah, he developed a lifelong love for Monroe Mountain and Manning Meadows, places that held a special place in his heart.
On March 22, 1958, Chanley married his soulmate, Virginia Utley. Their marriage was later solemnized in the St. George LDS Temple, marking the beginning of a remarkable love story. Chanley and Virginia moved to Las Vegas, where they raised their three daughters and son. Chanley cherished every moment spent with his family, which was the heart of his world.
A dedicated family man, Chanley was deeply devoted to his siblings. He held a special place in his heart for his brothers Nyles, Dale, and Faye. When Dale passed away unexpectedly, Chanley returned immediately to support Faye in maintaining the family business, Bredsguard Painting and Decorating. His devotion extended to his sisters, Twila, Pat, and Nola, who he often said were his greatest supporters, always looking out for their "gregarious and congenial" little brother.
Chanley’s life was characterized by warmth, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones. Known for his positive outlook and kindness, he often spoke of how fortunate he felt to be surrounded by wonderful people. He valued his lifelong friendships and delighted in sharing stories from his childhood in Monroe.
Chanley cherished the companionship of his brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Marilyn Utley, and enjoyed fishing trips, deer hunting, and sitting on the lawn in Joseph, Utah, telling stories—whether fact or fiction, as a little embellishment always made the stories even better!
Chanley’s hobbies centered around his family. He loved spending time with his son, four-wheeling, camping, or hunting. Chanley and his son were a constant team and even worked side by side for many years. He was a constant presence at his daughter's high school cheerleading events, plays, and even their beginning band concerts. His devotion extended to his grandchildren, whom he supported with tireless love, from fixing tires and filling gas tanks to driving them to school and picking them up from the nurse’s office, even when they simply needed a day off.
Chanley was also known for his incredible skills. He could organize, clean, paint, and fix almost anything with remarkable efficiency. His ability to get things done quickly and effectively was well-known among family and friends.
In his later years, Chanley continued to bring joy to those around him. Even as his health declined, he was a beacon of light at his assisted living center, participating in activities and offering a listening ear to fellow residents.
A Journeyman Painter and Instructor for the Painters Allied Trust Apprenticeship Program, Chanley formed long-lasting friendships while helping many young men and women learn a trade that would support them throughout their lives. He also served on the Joseph Town Council and as a counselor in the Joseph Ward Bishopric.
As his daughters, we could not have asked for a better father. We are eternally grateful for the lessons of self-sufficiency and the love for life that he and Mom instilled in us.
Chanley was preceded in death by his wife Virginia Utley Bredsguard, his son, Edward Blaine (Ted) Bredsguard, and grandson Brandon Chanley Bredsguard-Brown.
Chanley is survived by: Channa Le (Keith) Jarvis, Teresa Jo Connely, LeNora Bredsguard, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren, and his faithful and loyal four-legged companion Johnny Cash.
A celebration of Chanley’s life will be held at a later date. Chanley’s legacy of love, dedication, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be remembered with deep affection and gratitude.
