CECILIA PINILLA – A Beautiful Life. October 28, 1936 / June 15, 2022 Coming from a distinguished Colombian family, Cecilia was born in Santander, Colombia, in 1936. The memories of her beloved father did not last long since as a young girl, her mother passed away, she continued her life with her mother and her brothers and sisters. Cecilia was known for being a sweet good girl, but somewhat rebellious.
In her youth she gave birth to her only child, who was born in a Convent of French nuns in Bogota, Colombia. The mother superior and Cecilia decided to name the child Victor Hugo, in memory of the great French writer. Victor Hugo was raised and educated by Cecilia, nuns and priests for the next seven years, until Cecilia decided to emigrate with her son to Venezuela, a neighboring country.
Both in Colombia and Venezuela, Cecilia’s only goal was to take care of her son, to whom she dedicated her entire life and gave him the best education and the best schools. Cecilia worked in different places in Caracas, Venezuela, from working for the military and politicians, to culminating in clinics and hospitals in the equipment and lingerie part. According to Victor Hugo, her son, she was the fastest, most agile and precise typist in the notaries and courts where she worked.
During all that time Cecilia never forgot the orthodox and old-fashioned principles of her distinguished family. Cecilia was always a respectable woman and respected by everyone everywhere.
Jovial, friendly and nice, however Cecilia was also known for her firm character and for setting her limits and due respect for her among her family, acquaintances and friends.
Thanks to her and her efforts, Victor Hugo learns English in Venezuela and successfully graduates as a Diplomat from the Central University of Venezuela. Cecilia’s goal of seeing her son achieve many goals had been fulfilled. Thanks in part to Cecilia, Victor Hugo got good jobs and got him on the right track, until they both came to the United States due to the already precarious political conditions in Venezuela.
In the United States, Cecilia stood out for her convictions and principles in the same way. Here she also continued to contribute with her son, both dedicated to serving others and enhancing the United States, the two being inseparable. Cecilia left an indelible and beautiful legacy in the community both in Venezuela and in the United States, and with those who knew her, of which Victor Hugo himself will say a few words about her shortly.
Today we honor a fighter, a humble, hard-working, responsible, dedicated, loved and admired woman by all. The beauty of humanity was in her.
But the most important things in Cecilia’s personality and life were always her pure heart, her desire to help everyone, and her legacy of transparency, persistence, responsibility, dedication, and the extreme beauty of her heart, with the innocence of angels.
That’s right, for her relatives and friends, for everyone who knew her, Cecilia was, simply, an angel full of beauty.
Rest in Peace, dear Cecilia.
CECILIA PINILLA – UNA VIDA HERMOSA
Oct’ 28, 1936 / June 15, 2022
