Catherine Laird

May 1, 1925 — October 13, 2015

Kay returned to Heaven on October 13, 2015. She was born May 1, 1925 to Edward and Goldie Greb in Littleton Co. She graduated from Bear Creek High School in 1943. She married her life long companion, Nelson, on July 5, 1947. Together, they raised three sons, Robert, Jeffery, and Christopher. After High School, she worked for a short time as a telephone operator, back in the day when you picked up the phone and had to tell her the number that you wanted. Kay and her family moved to Salt Lake City in the spring of 1950 when Nelson was transferred. There she enjoyed life as a stay at home wife and mother. She was involved with the local PTA and Cub Scouting programs during the time that her sons were in school and the Cub Scouts. When she and Nelson became “empty nesters” she kept busy by volunteering at LDS Hospital as a Pink Lady. She enjoyed doing that for several years, and by the time she left, had volunteered for over 2000 hours. She along with Nelson were active members of the South Salt Lake Lions Club. When Nelson retired, they joined the Telephone Family of Campers, “The Rolling Phones”, and together they fulfilled a dream of traveling the country together. They spent almost twenty years during the summer months on the road seeing many of the sights that this country has to offer and spent the winter months Yuma, Az. with many of their “snowbird” friends. In 2000, they chose to end their traveling and decided to stay close to home. There Kay enjoyed reading, watching TV, cooking, and making trips to Wendover to bring home buckets of nickels.
Kay is survived by Nelson, her husband of 68 years, her sons Robert (Leda), and Chris (Cindy). Also survived by 2 Grandchildren Christy Bailey (Jason), Ryan Laird (Alicia) and 6 Great Grandchildren.
Proceeded in death by her Son, Jeffery, her parents, and her brothers Ray and Edward Jr.
She was a very special lady. Her wit, humor, and her presence will be deeply missed by all of us that loved and revered her.
