Carrie Louise Romney

November 25, 1930 — July 6, 2021

On the morning of July 6, 2021, Carrie Louise Romney, age 90, passed peacefully in her sleep while residing at Legacy House of Taylorsville Assisted Living in Utah.
Carrie was born to Otto Karl Kowallis and Carrie Ricks on November 25, 1930 in Vernal, Utah. She was sealed to Milton C. Romney for time and all eternity on March 18, 1978 in the Los Angeles Temple. They lived most of their married life in Camarillo Springs, California, during which time she worked as a chorister in the Primary, served in the Family History Center, and held various other positions. Carrie and Milt served three missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; one in Bristol England and two in the Philippines.
Singing, dancing, and drama were some of Carrie’s passions. She danced in the annual Gold and Green Balls sponsored by the LDS Church and sang in many ward and stake choirs, talent shows, and plays. She performed many solos for church functions and community events throughout her lifetime and was a cantor at the Jewish temple in Bakersfield for 18 years. Carrie joined the Kern Opera Company in the 1960’s and co-starred in three operas: Tales of Hoffman, La Traviata, and Hansel and Gretel. She later soloed in a community production of Handel’s Messiah at the Bakersfield Civic Auditorium. Her favorite actress was movie legend, Deanna Durbin, a wholesome star of depression-era Hollywood movies in the 1930’s, who also had a powerful singing voice and played the perfect girl next door.
Carrie is survived by her husband of 43 years, Milton C. Romney, and sister, Donna Hansen. Carrie is also survived by children from her first marriage: Carrie Lynn Scott, Keith Justin Glover (Karen), and Shawnna Louise Nay (Ron). Carrie considered Milt’s children from his first marriage part of her family: Dan Romney, Becky Collet, Celeste Bird (Alan), Park Romney, and Victoria Diak. The combined family has been blessed with 24 grandchildren and 80 great-grandchildren.
Carrie was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Vesta Glover, and her three brothers: Otto Karl Kowallis, Calvin Kowallis, and Ted Kowallis as well as her sister, Theda Parkinson.
