Carolyn Goodrich

October 21, 1942 — December 8, 2019

Carolyn Kirkland Goodrich passed away peacefully at home December 8, 2019. Born October 21, 1942 to James Henry and Juanita Griffis Kirkland, in Douglas, Georgia. She lived in Douglas until her parents moved to Brunswick, Georgia where she grew up.
At age 19, Carolyn served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for six months in Atlanta and Decator, Georgia. After her mission she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah to live with her grandmother, Beadie Griffis.
She attended LDS Business College and worked for the church purchasing department. She met the love of her life, Jay Goodrich at the Terrace Ballroom in Salt Lake City and they were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple, December 6, 1963. Carolyn was very active in community affairs as well as raising five children while her husband traveled for work.She served several years in PTA, serving as president of PTA at Howard R. Driggs Elementary and as president in the PTSA at Olympus High School. She volunteered at Cottonwood Hospital assisting patients and for the Right to Life. She attended Westminister College to further her education. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served many years in the primary, as a counselor in the Relief Society Presidency and as a ward missionary. Carolyn served a service mission with her husband Jay at Welfare Square Employment Center and also as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Carolyn loved her children and grandchildren very much.
She is survived by her husband Melvin Jay Goodrich, five children, JaLynn (late Tracy) Houston, Bret (Mica) Goodrich, Jim (Jennifer) Goodrich, Ken (Loreal) Goodrich, Mike (Heather) Goodrich, 25 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Kenneth and Farrel Kirkland and son-in-law Tracy Houston.
The family would like to thank Aspire Hospice, especially Shelly, and the independent care from Maggie and Kay for all of their tender care of Carolyn.
There will be a viewing, Friday, December 13 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 14 from 9:30-10-30 a.m. with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. held at the Holladay 10th ward chapel, 4601 South Chapel Drive. Interment at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 South State Street, Sandy, Utah .84070.
