Carolyn French

January 21, 1938 — January 17, 2022

On Monday, January 17, 2022 our sweet kind mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend passed away from dementia. Carolyn Jean French was born on January 21, 1938 to Dennis and Georgina Albertina Thorpe in Ogden, Utah. Her family later moved to Salt Lake where she graduated from West High School in 1956. She was the 4th of 5 children. At the age of 15 her father unexpectedly passed away. Her mother started to take care of babies for the Children Service Society and Carolyn helped her mother even answering a call when her mother wasn’t home and saying they would be glad to take care of a new baby. Her mother said, “you can take care of him” and she did. While a teenager she made a lifelong friend; Carol Ann Jensen Durfee. Throughout the years they shared stories of their families, good conversations and many years of friendship.

Carolyn was married in 1957  in Salt Lake and had 5 daughters she loved. She was later divorced and moved to West Jordan. She went back to work and also college. It was not easy for her, but worth it to raise and teach her daughters. She taught by example to be kind, honest, hard workers, serve others and to be Christlike. She was later married to Clifford French in 1990 and were perfect for each other. They loved to take rides together often going to Logan to a place they both loved. They had their checklist of places they were going to visit. They loved to get together with family. Their house was small, but filled with love. Carolyn took care of Cliff with great love and care when his health declined till his passing in 2010. Carolyn loved to bake; especially bread and cinnamon rolls and share with family, friends and neighbors. When she would visit her brother in Colorado she would take him homemade bread. She was known as the “thank you queen” for always sending thank you notes and the “sock lady” for the many socks she gave away. She remembered others on their birthdays and other special days.

Carolyn was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She taught primary for many years. She loved to go to the temple and it was one of her favorite places to be. After Cliff’s passing she volunteered at Alta View Hospital for many years. She enjoyed her time there.  She loved her family and more than anything she wanted her family to be together. She attended her children and grandchildren’s special events. She enjoyed serving others, going for walks, puzzles, playing games and reading.

Carolyn is survived by her daughters Elaina Bosen, Doreen (Manuel) DaSilva, Belinda Taylor and Kaylyn (Gary) Crum, Son-in-law Randy Ohlwiler, grandchildren Stephanie, Tarrance, Nathanial, Emily, Cameron, Alison, Christopher, Matthew, Andrew, Brittney, Zachary, William, Ashley, Connor, Annette, Greg, Michael and their spouses. Also great grandchildren Amelia, Jessica, Thomas, Brady, Ian, Collin, Reed, Owen, Waren, Deseret, Cora, Susan, Brooklyn, Declan, Oliver, Sage, Truman, Claire, Natalie and Myles. Preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford French, daughters Anita Ohlwiler, Karen Iverson, son-in-law Ken Taylor, and her siblings.
