Carolyn Bass

Carolyn Lee Williams Bass was born in Forest, Mississippi, July 22, 1935, and passed away peacefully May 4, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Daughter of Eddie E. Williams, Sr. and Esther W. Williams, she graduated from West High School in 1954, and went on to attend Stevens-Henager Business College, graduating with honors.
She was baptized at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church on June 16, 1946. Carolyn’s Christian Education began. A faithful member of 66 years, Carolyn served as Church Clerk, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, and more recently as Mentor for The Women for Christ Mission Auxiliary. She was fervent in her diligence and devotion to learning and teaching the word of God.
Carolyn was a member of Columbine Grand Chapter O.E.S. PHA, and Worthy Matron of Queen Esther Chapter No. 2.
After 40 years of dedicated service, Carolyn retired from the Salt Lake County Assessors’ Office in 2009.
She was an avid sports fan. Known to her family as an “Armchair Quarter Back”, Mom loved football, basketball, baseball, boxing, and also enjoyed watching the Olympics. She had a great appreciation for music. Her love of music included listening to Jazz, R&B, and Hymns. Affectionately known as the “Domestic Diva”, Mom was an incredible cook, and loved to entertain.
Preceded in death by: her parents; John O. Williams (Brother); Michael W. Dixon (Son); Jánelle J. Dixon-Mason (Daughter). Leaving to cherish and honor her memory: Husband of 42 years, Lloyd M. Bass; Daughters, Carolyn (Shelley) Smith, Della (Daniel) Johnson, Natasha L. Young; and Son-in-Law Anthony L. Mason; Grandchildren, Courtney I. Smith, Sémiya D. Johnson, Tai J. Mason, Daniel M. Johnson, and Amani R. Mason; Siblings, Percy W. Williams, Eddie E. Williams, Jr., Robert V. (Beverlee) Williams, Richard W. Williams, Paul K. (Sue) Williams, Esther Patricia (Clyde) Jones; and her only Aunt Omega C. Davis of Laurel, MS.; a host of nieces, nephews and a beloved friend, Deanna L. Green, along with extended family and friends.
Services will be held Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11:00 am at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 1090 South State Street, Salt lake City, Utah. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
