Carol Steinacker

Carol Bateman Steinacker passed away September 18, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born March 2, 1926 at her home in North Logan, Utah to Edith Cundick and George Q. Bateman, and was delivered by her father. She married Karl A. Steinacker on September 16, 1950, and was later sealed in the Logan Temple on October 5, 1953. Though she graduated from the Agricultural College (now USU), with children who went to both BYU and Utah, she cheered for all three schools.
Around 1976, her youngest daughter came home from grade school and christened her with a new nickname. From then on, Carol has been known to her family as “Meemo.”
Carol did quite a bit of traveling with Karl and her young family, usually to see friends and relatives. After Karl passed on, she enjoyed playing cards with her sister and friends, watching Utah Jazz games and college sports, and doing crossword puzzles. Carol had a talent for painting landscapes, and painted cards to send to family members along with her letters. She loved to sit on her porch and enjoy the evening breeze or a sunset. She was especially devoted to her friends, family, and extended family. She was a faithful member of the LDS Church, serving in many ward and stake Primary and Relief Society callings.
Carol is survived by her children; Terry (Debbie), Lakewood, WA; Jeff (Rae Lee), Elk Ridge, UT; Sandy (Norm) Weiss, Sandy, UT; John (Gina), Gilbert, AZ; and Jan (Dave) Western, Salt Lake City, UT; also a sister Faye Walch and a brother Ralph Bateman; as well as 18 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family is grateful Mom was able to stay in her house until her passing, and want to thank the caring staff at St. Mark’s Hospital.
The family wants everyone to know we have tried to follow Carol’s wishes for her funeral as closely as possible. Her last explicit written instructions to us were: “Don’t Cross the Meemo.”
In lieu of flowers, take your family out to eat at Chuck-a-Rama, Mom’s favorite restaurant.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, September 23, 2013 at 12:00 noon at the Mountain View 1st Ward Chapel, 1400 South 1900 East, Salt Lake City. A viewing will be held the evening of Sunday, September 22, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Deseret Memorial Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, Salt Lake City, and also one hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
