Carol Hawkes

October 19, 1921 — May 14, 2015

Our beloved, thoughtful and generous mother Carol Neff Hawkes died on May 14, 2015. She lived life on her own terms and was as smart as a tack until the end. She was born October 19, 1921 at East Mill Creek, Utah, a daughter of John McClain Neff and Carol Christina Smith. She married Alma Walter Hawkes, Jr. on May 25, 1946, the love of her life who passed away April 16, 1984. Survived by sons John A. Hawkes and Thomas W. Hawkes and daughter Dr. Christine (Tina) Hawkes. Also survived by brothers John Elwood (Lorele), Amos Barr (Sandy), and A. Robert Neff (Marilyn), and sisters-in-law Karen Miner and Betty Hawkes and many loved nieces and nephews and friends. Preceded in death by brothers Drs. Thomas Rodney Neff and Stanley D. Neff and brother-in-law Warren Hawkes and sisters-in-law Donna Hawkes Vogeler, Ruth Hawkes Harper and Beverly Goss Neff. Our mother attended Granite High School, the University of Utah and the Wolfe School of Design in Los Angeles, CA. She was a lifelong clothing designer and talented seamstress. In 1987, she retired from the Utah State Social Services and was a former employee of the American Red Cross. She enjoyed swimming, golf and the arts. She was a former member of the Salt Lake Council of Women and the Ladies of the Guard and was a hospital volunteer for many years. Our mother and father moved to Cottonwood shortly after their marriage and lived in the same home until their deaths. She greatly loved her home and her yard. She planned for and loved Christmas all year long because it allowed her to express her generosity and love. Our mother will be missed by countless people whose lives she touched.
