Carol Barnes

August 5, 1931 — February 6, 2019

We say goodbye to Carol Waterman Barnes who died February 6, 2019 at the age of 87. Carol was born in Price, Utah on August 5, 1931 to Elva Dee Jewkes and Arthur Lawrence Waterman. Carol was loved by many, lived fiercely and will always be a part of our lives.
Carol married the love of her life, Thomas Barnes, on December 16, 1955 and raised their three children together. She was a phenomenal nurse and one of the founders of the nursing program at Salt Lake Community College. Carol loved board games and was the best at Scrabble, which is why no one ever wanted to play that game with her. Her other favorite games were Aggravation and Rummikub, which even with some element of chance she still usually won. She crocheted beautifully and a common picture was her crocheting an afghan in her La-Z-Boy, while answering every question to Jeopardy. She took her children and grandchildren to Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Yellowstone National Parks and even after she visited Europe therewas nothing that could hold a candle to Bryce Canyon in her eyes.  She loved teaching music in Primary and taught her grandchildren every pioneer song they know. She was also passionate about her Cougars, even when they lost, which they did far too often despite her coaching.
She is survived by her husband Thomas Barnes and children Karen Larsen, Brian Barnes and Kris Barnes. She is also survived by her grandchildren Lance Larsen, Chelsey Jorgenson, Breanne Richins, Heather Walquist, Ashley Barnes and Kiera Barnes as well as 15 great-grandchildren.
