Carol Ann Holcombe

May 15, 1946 — January 22, 2021

Carol Ann Holcombe, 74, died January 22, 2021, at Intermountain Medical Center from complications of the Covid-19 virus.
Carol was born May 15th 1946 in Tooele, Utah, the daughter of Garrett and Melba Daniels. She was the wife of Thomas H. Holcombe, Jr. for a wonderful fifty years.
Carol grew up with her sister, Jeanette, in Utah and Idaho and loved the family’s frequent camping trips. She prided herself on her outdoor cooking skills and loved the beautiful country that she called home. Her first marriage gave her two sons, Shane and Brent. She married Tom Holcombe on April 20, 1971 and a third son, Kyle, was added to their family.
Carol’s passions were her family, children, and animals. She expressed her love for animals in the many pets she had during her life and as a volunteer docent at Hogle Zoo. She also cared deeply about children and devoted almost half of her life to early childhood development as the owner of Magic Castle Daycare and Preschool in Salt Lake City, where she helped shape the lives of thousands of children over more than three decades before retiring from the business just a few years ago.
In her spare time, Carol enjoyed spending quality time with her grandchildren, and took an RV trip to Yellowstone Park with them in 2018. In recent years, she made two visits to New Hampshire to attend performances by her East Coast grandchildren. She loved teaching children, and was often found teaching her youngest grandchildren to read and write. She also loved reading, movies, games, and crafts.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tom, and her three sons, Shane Thacker of Holliday Utah, Brent Holcombe of Londonderry, New Hampshire, and Kyle Holcombe of Sandy Utah. Carol leaves six devoted grandchildren: Kennedy Thacker of Mesquite, Nevada,  Hunter, Ellie, and Ty Holcombe Londonderry, New Hampshire, and Hyde and Abby Holcombe of Sandy, Utah.
She was predeceased by her parents, Melba and Garrett Daniels, and her sister, Jeanette Christensen.
