Age 87
Carmen passed away on the 19th of April, 2022 in her home in Roy, Utah. She was born on September 3, 1934 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico to Hipolito Pineiro and Josefa Soto. She married Jorge A. Ortiz.
She was an amazing seamstress – as a young girl, she sewed gloves for pennies that allowed her to buy fabric for dresses. At any given year she weas selling Vafra, Avon or household goods; she even had her own shop. She lived her life in dedication to her family and pursuit of leaving a legacy for her loved ones – she sought the American Dream. She was giving of her time to others and even was a senior buddy. She was a dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served many callings – among her favorites, was serving in the nursery.
She is survived by her grandchildren: Eli Maldonado, Zun Garcia, Jorge Valentin and her great grandchildren: Eli Maldonado, Matthew Maldonado, Alexander Maldonado, Ryan Maldonado, Savannah Maldonado, Elias Garcia, Faith Garcia, Audrey Valentin, Grace Valentin, Elizabeth Valentin, and William Valentin.
She is preceded in death by her daughter, Margaret A. Oliras, her husband, Jorge A. Ortiz, her siblings, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 1:00 at the Wilcox Meadows Ward Building, 700 South 2500 West, Syracuse, Utah 84075. A viewing will take place one hour prior to services.
