Carlos Morales

March 12, 1950 — July 11, 2015

Carlos Enrique Morales, age 65, passed away at 9:29 a.m. July 11, 2015 at St. Mark Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah. He was born on March 12, 1950 in Quito, Ecuador to Enma Raquel Diaz and Victor Hugo Morales. He married his soul mate Ofelia Elizabeth Henriquez. They were married in Maryland, New York on April 20, 1986.
As many of you know it was a pleasure to spend time with Carlos and smile within minutes. He loved to make people laugh whether it was by being a total goof ball or from one of his hundreds of jokes that he memorized over the years from his adventures. His personality was addictive and his friendship was a blessing that you would cherish for the rest of your days.
Being born in the intense poverty in Ecuador he knew that to be able to survive he had to be strong and brave. Realizing the only way he would actually live is adopting the mindset “you are more than where you came from”. At the age of 14 he walked from Ecuador to Colombia in search of his father, hoping that this would be his big break from the cruel world he knew, only to find that this was only the beginning of a long, difficult road.
He worked dangerous jobs meant for grown men when he was just a young boy, sometimes just for one meal. Although he was proud of his home country, once the opportunity came, he ventured to a new land, the United States of America.
He came with the clothes on his back, $10, and a dream for a better life. His love for music lifted his ambitions and his career as a musician which allowed him to live a nice adequate life with his first two children, Carlos and Paola Morales. At the height of his musical career, he was diagnosed with stomach cancer. Hitting his life like a bag of bricks, forcing him to examine his life and set forth a new contrasting lifestyle. He was converted.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints took his weak and broken soul and made him whole and blessed him with the encounter of his soul mate Ofelia Elizabeth. God brought this woman into his life to perfect his eccentric personality, tame the fire burning inside him and to cater his emotions and home. A woman to love him and be with him for eternity, a vow they made to each other, promised by our heavenly father. For 29 years on this earth they fulfilled it and forever after this life they will continue.
Their love flourished into four beautiful children; Andrea, Karla, Laura, and Marcelo, which Lead to amazing grandchildren; Isis, Dominic, EmmaRee, Gabriel, Scarlett, and Brighton, and son-in-law Brandon. Along with Elizabeth they established “el hogar” meaning “a home”. He loved them with all his heart, sometimes too much for his own good.
He was a man that came from nothing and at times thought he would never be anything. Although he accomplished many things his focus was to build a family that was inseparable, strong, loyal to each other and successful.
Later on in life, he suffered from heart issues which made him really sick and resulted in three heart attacks, many surgeries and eventually his passing and the journey to our heavenly father. He fought valiantly through his medical issues making us believe he was invincible. He always shined with the light of our heavenly father in his eyes and hid his physical pain behind his loving smile. But there comes a time where we all grow up and face the trial of losing someone as amazing as this man we speak of today. A man that won’t be forgotten and forever loved.
Surviving are Ofelia Morales(wife), Andrea Morales(daughter), Karla Morales(daughter), Laura Morgan(daughter), Marcelo Morales(son), Paola Morales(daughter), Carlos Morales(son), 12 grandchildren.
