Carl Roethel

April 9, 1918 — February 24, 2014

Carl was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 9, 1918 to Karl & Hermina Roethel, deceased. He was also preceded in death by his sisters Lenore Lewis (William) and Alene Alexander (Frank). He married Dorothy Cude in 1940 in the LDS Temple and they had two children, Cristine Baker (Rod) and Bryan Roethel (Taunie). After her death in 1969, he was lucky enough to meet and marry Gaylene Edling Bennion in the LDS Temple in 1972 and became the patriarch of an expanding family that included her children Shannon Salt (Matthew), Maryanne Wilson (Scott), and Kelly Bennion (Debbie). They were further blessed by the birth of their son Paul Roethel (Jessica). He is survived by all his children, 19 grandchildren (1 grandson Joel Wilson (deceased), and 19 great-grandchildren. Carl passed away on February 24, 2014 in Rigby, Idaho at the home of his son Kelly, with his children at his side.
Dad served in the European Theatre in World War II providing communications support. He spent his career in commercial refrigeration retiring at the age of 75 after raising three families and was able to enjoy travel and family time with Gaylene before her passing in 2004.
Dad was an active member of the LDS Church serving in the office of High Priest, a faithful home teacher, and held many positions. He strove to serve God, his church, and his family through service, sacrifice and humor setting an example for us all to follow. Dad enjoyed the simple things in life, was always grateful for what he had and what others did for him, always saw the best in his family and friends. He shared his love for tennis teaching each of his children from the oldest to the youngest and instilled his love of the mountains, beautiful flowers & nature.
There will be a service for family and friends on March 1, 2014 at the Canyon Rim I & II LDS Church, 3000 South Grace Street, Salt Lake City, Utah at 11:00AM preceded by a viewing beginning at 9:45 AM. Interment will be at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
