Carl Alex Juhasz

May 12, 1923 — April 27, 2018

Carl Alex Juhasz (94), born (Karoly Sador Juhasz) May 12th 1923, took his last breath on Friday afternoon, April 27th. He left us the same way he lived… in silence, with determination, strength, consistency and unwavering poise.  I know that living to be 94 means to live a long, full life. No matter the years, Dad’s death will leave an empty hole in our lives.
He has been married to Gizella, our Mom, for over 70 years. It is difficult to imagine the emptiness that his departure leaves in her soul. For me, the images of the man that he was are forever embedded in my memory. I know that the phrase of “being our rock” is a cliché phrase overused by social media and sappy posts. But Carl was a definition of “the rock”. He fought in the Korean War, he made a career in Aerospace and we literally called him a “rocket scientist”. He held a security clearance for his job. He could fix anything whether it needed fixing or not, and his tool box was a treasure chest for his sons. In a society where having more, living louder and seeking the next thrill seem to be benchmarks of success, Carl would have gone unnoticed. However, for his family and friends, he was the unwavering strength, quiet power and a secure anchor. He provided a great life for his family. He secured a comfortable retirement for himself and our Mom. First generation Americans, children to Hungarian parents, Carl and Gizella were an interesting blend of the Old World and the New World. They adhered to European rituals and clockwork traditions. They raised their children with strict boundaries, but with healthy freedom to mess up just enough to learn from their mistakes. Carl loved weekends with friends and family, playing card and board games, drinking Jack Daniels or Manhattan’s. He enjoyed his Prime Rib, his cheese and salami platter and his Hungarian kielbasa. SEE’S chocolates, a must. It is always during those times that my dad’s sense of humor would shine the brightest. He always had a witty comment, a sarcastic joke, or what I have now learned is called a “dad joke”. His favorite place on earth, Tahiti. He loved to travel and has thousands of pictures to share.
I am forever grateful to have had you by my side for this long, Dad. As your body and mind slowly departed over the course of the last months, maybe even years, I have realized how much I miss the talks we used to have. You might have just left us, but I feel like I haven’t seen you for months. I will forever hang onto the memories we created together.
Love You Dad!
Your son, Bob.
Carl is survived by his wife Gizella, sons Bob and Jim, grandchildren Corbin and Lauren, great grandchildren Berkley, Milo and Elavee.
