Calvin Rose

June 20, 1921 — October 11, 2015

Calvin Coolidge “Cal” Rose. Age 94, passed away October 11, 2015. Born June 20, 1921 in Rosalie, Nebraska to John and Theda Rose. Married Wauneta Dewey July 18, 1941.
Calvin is survived by his loving wife, Wauneta. They were married 74 years, 2 months and 23 days and were blessed with four children: Larry, Carolyn, Bob and Tammie and eight grandchildren: Joe, Lisa, Erik, Renee, Faith, Joel, Zachary and Benjamin. He also has nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn.
Everyone who knew Calvin loved his gentle and kind spirit. You would rarely see him without his cowboy hat and on Sundays, his bolo tie! He always had an encouraging word, ready smile and a twinkle in his eye. He loved collecting and making model cars which he displayed in his home.
Calvin had a deep and abiding love for His Savior. He was a committed Christian and a faithful member of Salt Lake Christian Center ever since retiring in Salt Lake City twenty-nine years ago. Throughout his years of working in the church, he served as a deacon, council member and Sunday School teacher. Every morning he faithfully read and meditated on the Scriptures and always carried a sermon in his Bible epitomizing 2 Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season.”
Calvin served his country proudly in the Army Air Force during World War II and received many distinguishing honors including a purple heart. He actively supported veteran causes. Throughout the years, the Salt Lake City Veteran’s Hospital and the many wonderful doctors, nurses, hospice and staff have become more than medical support: our deep appreciation goes out to this great group of people.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, October 16, 2015 at Salt Lake Christian Center, 4300 South 700 East.
Viewings will be held from 7-9:00 pm on Thursday at Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah and one hour prior at the church.
Interment to follow at Utah Veterans Memorial Park, 17111 South Redwood Road, Buffdale, Utah.
