C Rodney Cloward

January 9, 1934 — June 5, 2021

June 5, 2021, Charles Rodney Cloward passed away peacefully in his sleep, to join his sweetheart, Floris, for their 65th wedding anniversary, June 9. He was 87 years old.
Rodney was born January 9, 1934 in Aurora, Utah, to Charles Henry Cloward and Alice Dennison. He was the oldest of 4 children.
Rodney grew up in Salina, he graduated from Sevier County High School, Class of 1952.
He met his sweetheart at Fish Lake Lodge that summer, where Floris was working. He knew when he met her that she was someone special, and wanted to pursue a relationship with her. He courted her, traveling to Wayne County for dates, sometimes having to help milk cows or pay her brother Reed to do them before they left. They separated and got back together a few times with Floris always telling him to grow up.
Rodney enlisted in the Army in 1955 during the Korean War. He was home on leave when he ran into Floris while she was visiting his mom in Salina, when he asked her to write to him. They wrote letters to each other for 5 months before he proposed and asked if she would like to move to Alaska with him.
Rodney and Floris were married June 9th, 1956 in Loa, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple in October 1963. They were blessed, or cursed, depending on the day, with 6 children. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He held various positions in the church and the Boy Scouts. He fulfilled a successful service mission at the Bishop’s Storehouse, with Floris
After serving his country, Rodney had a variety of jobs, including working at a car wash, laying hardwood floors, roofing homes and operating the world’s largest rubber injection press. He always worked hard to provide for his family.
Rodney was a very friendly, happy-go-lucky man, who always had a smile on his face.  He made friends wherever he went. If you knew Rodney, you liked him.
Rodney enjoyed a myriad of activities. He was always tinkering with something. He loved working in his yard and garden, or in one of his work sheds. He was often spotted riding his bicycle around the neighborhood. And if you ever needed a helping hand, he was there.
Rodney was an avid outdoorsman. He and his family spent many vacations camping, fishing and being in the mountains.
Rodney was preceded in death by his wife, Floris, his parents, brothers Vernon and Kendall, a grandson Denton Cloward, and a great granddaughter, Azure Bench.
Rodney is survived by his 6 children, Russell (Juli) Cloward, Susan (Kay) Page, Diane Smith, Karen (Kip) Mautner, Lori (Michael) Bench, Jason (Deb) Cloward.  26 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
