Byron Garrit Mills, age 79, passed away in his home on March 7th 2022.
He was born on May 28th 1942 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Born to Ralph Swingwood Mills and Catherine Kranendonk and had 5 brothers and 2 sisters, Frances, Lloyd, Darrel, Norman, Arlene, Keith, and Brent.
As a young man, Byron is believed to be the first LDS Scout to earn all 101 Boy Scout merit badges (1958). He completed his last ment badge, Agriculture, in December of 1958 after a seven-month effort to grow two varieties of cotton. Byron also loved working with children. He would volunteer at his kids elementary school and after school programs to do science experiments and tutoring. He would read all the required classroom textbooks and created simplified booklets in which he would use in his tutoring. Being a boy scout in his youth, he brought that opportunity to a historically underserved youth in East Palo Alto. He was the Scoutmaster, teacher, and mentor to many children.
Byron married Siutiti (Judy) Pupunu Mills on December 14, 1973. He was a loving and dedicated father of 2. He is survived by his 2 children Abraham and Vaiola. Preceded in death by his son, Abraham Keith Mills, father Ralph Mills, mother Catherine Kranendonk, sister Frances Larson, sister Arlene Forde, brother Keith Mills.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 25th at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior at Murray Mortuary; 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah, 84121. Interment to follow at Memorial Mountain View Mortuary.
