“Man of Steel”
Our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend passed away May 11, 2014 due to complications from surgery. Born April 26, 1933 in Lafayette, IN to Hobart and Martha Buddelmeyer Barbour. Married Vivian Helen Wright (later divorced). Together they had Randy (Astrid), Debbie (Jerry) and Walt (Donna). Married Karen Lynn Krause. He then became the father of three more, Cindy, Karlene (Jack) and Rick (Carrie). Byrl was grandfather to 20 grandchildren, Nancy, Danny, Sydney, Heidi, Elisha, Joshua, Tyler, Brandon, Kami, Preston, Parker, Lenzi, Bret, Jordan, Hayden, Stephanie, Cody, Courtney, Channing and Paige; He adored his 30 great-grandchildren, Collin, Sasha, Riley, Parker, Janae, Cassidee, Maile Ann, Jayden, Teagan, Trevan, Makaylee, Tenley, Baby Girl Strain, Baiden, Brinley, Krew, Tayler, Tyson, Trey, Chandler, Spens, Ashton, Khendyl, Dominik, Kassidy, Baby Girl Tracy, Daxton, Kelton and Emery; two brothers, Dale (deceased) and Jake (Dama) and four sisters, Marilyn (Buddy), Dee (Don), T. Kay (Pete) and Irma (Vic).
Byrl was a teamster, long haul truck driver for IML Truck lines. He retired from Commercial Carriers. He and Karen moved to Lava Hot Springs, ID after retiring. He built their dream home, raised horses, built horse wagons and spent many hours helping friends and neighbors. Byrl was a devout democrat, CNN watcher and very opinionated!! He was always tinkering and able to fix anything. He was never able to grow hair on his chest because “hair don’t grow on steel!!” He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Communications NCO for the artillery division.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00pm, Saturday, May 17, 2014 at Redwood Memorial, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT with a viewing beginning two hours prior at 1:00 pm. Online condolences may be shared at www.redwoodmortuary.com.
