Bruce Sigurd (Sigert) Karinen

September 27, 1933 — March 11, 2017

Bruce Sigurd (Sigert) Karinen passed away on March 11, 2017 due to heart failure.  Bruce was born on September 27, 1933, in Detroit, Michigan the son of Marie Koskela and Sigurd Karinen.  He graduated from Cooley High School in 1951 and Michigan Technological University in 1955 with a degree in Geological Engineering.  He married Beverly Blackham on May 18, 1964.
Bruce worked for Hercules for 30 years in various management positions.  Dad dedicated over 40 years of volunteer service to Utah and USA Hockey, serving on the National Women’s Council and as the Rocky Mountain District Registrar.  Dad was an honest man with high moral values and integrity.  Dad was a wonderful grandpa, supporting each one of the grandchildren in their own unique interest.
He is survived by his loving children, Kathy Karinen, Kerry (Debra) Karinen, grandchildren, Brandon, Jared, Kara, and Jessica.  He was preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Beverly and brother Peter.  A viewing will be held Friday, March 17, from 6 to 8 PM at Murray Memorial Mortuary, 5850 South 900 East, Murray, Utah.  A graveside service will be held Saturday, March 18 at 2:00 PM at Holladay Memorial Park, 4900 South Memory Lane, Holladay, Utah.  Friends may leave condolences by going to www.memorialutah.com.  In lieu of flowers, please donate in Bruce’s name to USA Hockey at www.usahockeyfoundation.com
