Bruce Tingey Hadfield, 80, passed away peacefully on 24 Oct 2024 due to declining health. Born July 13, 1944 in Brigham City, Utah. Eldest child and only son of Herman Warburton and Ida Tingey Hadfield. Graduate of Box Elder High School. Earned his Bachelors degree while attending Utah State University, where he returned to instruct journalism in 1968 after obtaining his Masters degree in journalism from the University of Oregon in Eugene. A sense of adventure led Bruce to work in several large cities around the country including Columbia, Maryland, San Francisco, California, and Atlanta, Georgia before he returned to Salt Lake City, Utah where he laid roots in the early 1980’s. Bruce had an oversized impact on the local community in Utah where he found his professional footing as a sales associate in the Men’s Suits department at the Salt Lake City downtown Nordstrom, a destination shopping site for upscale, trendy, and fine clothing. For over 30 years, Bruce was well-respected in the community for helping men of all ages look and feel their best for the important occasions in their life. Many considered Bruce their good friend as a result. He was repeatedly recognized as the top sales associate within the Nordstrom Company.
Bruce was an avid and dedicated “fitness buff” who continued to work out daily into his retirement up until the day he was admitted to the hospital two months before his passing, literally until he was unable to walk. Bruce will be remembered most for his role as “Uncle Bruce” to his sister Judith Hadfield Robins’ children, to whom he was a part of their daily and weekly lives while they grew up in Utah. He maintained his “Uncle Bruce” role to all his grand-nephews and grand-nieces up until his passing.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Janet and Judith. He is survived by his brother-in-law Richard Glen Robins, his nephew Col. R. Judd Robins, M.D., USAF and his wife Jeannie, children Daxon, Annabelle, Chase and Cassidy, Colorado Springs, CO; nephew Christopher Robins, D.D.S. and his wife Mariah, children Cooper, Henry, and Oliver, West Point, UT; his niece Kelley Robins Flint and her husband Wesley William Flint, M.D., children Charles, Reese, Hailey, and Heath, Boise, ID; and his nephew Radley Beau Robins, D.D.S. and his wife Laura, children Jackson, Elijah, Emmeline, and Ezekiel, Houston, TX.
A special thank you to Bruce’s close friends Jared Winn and Rebecca Bennion, who brought joy to Bruce’s life in his later years and were with him through his final days.
Bruce requested cremation and will be interred at Memorial Holladay Cemetery next to where his sister Judith now rests. A Memorial and Celebration of Life will be held next year when the weather is warmer, which was his preferred time of year.
