Brent William Marler

Brent Willian Marler of Bountiful, Utah, passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at the age of 74. Brent was born on December 23, 1945 in San Diego, California to William and Irene Marler. From 1967 to 1969 he served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Southern Australian Mission. He then went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in 1971 from Brigham Young University and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, through the ROTC program. Brent had a distinguished career in the Air Force, achieving the rank of Full Colonel and received many decorations, medals and citations, including the Legion of Merit. He graduated from Undergraduate Navigator Training in 1973 and served as a Weapon Systems Officer in F-4 Phantom II fighters in California, Korea and Germany. While serving in those front-line assignments, he was recognized by his peers as a consummate professional and leader. Later in his career, he was assigned to the Pentagon in various high-level capacities. After his retirement from the Air Force, Brent became a Director at L3 Communications in Salt Lake City. He retired from L3 in 2015. Brent was loved and respected by all of his co-workers, friends and neighbors. He was a champion for the inclusion of all as a part of the community. Once Brent took on a task, he was known for his in-depth research and the ability to express the details of whatever project he undertook. On occasion, Brent would teach. He was an inspiring instructor. During his last years, he enjoyed working on genealogy and Family History, and helping others to use the many tools for research that are available today. Brent is survived by his Sister Neva Samuelson of Carmichael, California, along with nieces and nephews. A viewing and graveside service will be held at the Memorial Lake View Mortuary and Cemetery at 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, Utah, on Wednesday, April 8th. The viewing begins at 12:00 PM, the graveside service begins at 1:00 PM.
