Brandy Grace Verholtz completed her earthy journey and returned home to the heavens, in the early morning of November 3, 2024, at the age of 44, due to an accidental overdose. She was born on March 23, 1980, to Karl Verholtz and Mindy Bottoms, and was the firstborn daughter. Brandy had a total of 6 sisters but was raised with Karl and Mindy's only other daughter, Jami. They had a close and special bond and didn't have a typical childhood. It was always the two of them against the world. If they didn’t have anyone else, at least they ALWAYS had each other. They were determined to raise their children together, keep them close, and give them the childhood they never had.
Brandy’s life would be forever changed for good as she started her motherhood journey at the age of 17. She was the heart of her home raising four rambunctious boys, Jordan, Jeremy, Joseph & Jaezel. She was a mother her kids could always go to for advice, love and comfort. She loved being a mother. She was a big kid at heart and would always take the time to play and make all kids feel loved and special. She really enjoyed the days when her nieces could come over and she wouldn’t be the only girl in the house.
She always made sure her boys were well taken care of and did the best she could to give them everything they needed. She loved taking them to 7-11 so they could get a snack, and she could get her Pepsi & maple bar or a bag of chips.
Brandy was a picky eater and enjoyed simple things like frozen bean and cheese burritos and ice cream.
She was an active mother who always took her boys swimming, to football and baseball practice and games cheering them on as their biggest fans. She always made sure that Christmas was a morning they would never forget and probably went a little too overboard.
Always sacrificing her needs for the good of her family, Brandy will be remembered as a mother who always had a smile, even when times were tough. She had a quiet strength.
She had a great sense of humor even while struggling with her demons. She loved her family deeply and would do anything she could for her boys and those she loved. She believed strongly in second chances, maybe because she craved another chance for herself.
She was a beautiful, kind, intelligent mother who sadly fell into addiction's grip.
We want to share her story in the hope that lives may be saved and to let everyone know she was more than her addiction and her mistakes. Addiction does not discriminate.
The only way we will conquer this epidemic is to share our stories and raise awareness. We believe that hiding her cause of death would help no one, but if her story could help just one addict push even harder for another day of sobriety, encourage an active user to choose recovery, or shine a light on this horrible epidemic, then it would be worth coming out of the shadows!
We know Brandy is now at peace and her struggles are now over. She will be deeply missed but we know we will see her again one day.
Brandy leaves behind four boys Jordan Bronson, Jeremy Turnbow, Joseph Turnbow and Jaezel Clark; four grandsons; her parents Karl Verholtz, Mindy Bottoms; four sisters- Jenica, Jami, Jessica, and Jerrica; and many nieces and nephews.
Brandy was greeted at heaven’s door by two sisters Brittany and Stephanie; her paternal grandparents Fred and Janet Welch; maternal grandparents Marsha Walker and Denise Howe; and many aunts and uncles.
