Boyd was born on February 8, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Richard and Elaine Earl. He married Laurie Amy Earl on April 21, 1984, in the Salt Lake City LDS temple. He was the 7th of 8 children. He grew up in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City, Utah. He graduated from Highland High School in 1977.
He served an honorable mission in the California Sacramento mission from 1978 to 1980. After his mission he graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 1984. He later received his Master’s degree in Education from the University of Utah.
Boyd was a happy and loving person whose lifelong love of fun and games was passed to his family and friends. He had a passion for theater and singing which drew him into numerous community theater productions. He loved to travel. He visited most of the states in the U.S and several foreign countries. He worked as a successful educator for 32 years at Nibley Park Elementary in Salt Lake City, Utah. His favorite position was as a kindergarten teacher.
He served in many LDS church callings such as: cubmaster, ward clerk, bishopric counselor, ward mission leader, executive secretary of a young single adult ward, teacher, ward family history consultant, and as a temple worker in the Jordan River Temple, and the Taylorsville Utah Temple. He and his wife served a church service mission in the Rose Park Area of Salt Lake City, Utah.
He is survived by his wife Laurie Earl. His sons Jonathan (Megan) Earl and Scott (Crystaldawn) Earl. His grandchildren, Isaac, Olivia, James, Sophie and Aiden Earl. His siblings, David Earl, Wayne (Carol) Earl, Roselyn Stevens, Keith (Lisa) Earl, Barbara (Larell) Palmer, Lloyd (Shelley) Earl, and Nadine (David) Thomas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Elaine Earl.
A Celebration of Boyd's Life will be on Friday, August 2, 2024, at 2:00 pm at the LDS Church, 4195 South 6000 West, West Valley City, UT. Boyd will be laid to rest at a private family graveside at Memorial Lakeview Mortuary & Cemetery, 1640 East Lakeview Drive, Bountiful, UT.
