Bonnie Sowby

Bonnie Lee Sowby passed away on May 31st, 2021, at her home in Magna, Utah at the age of 72. Bonnie was born on March 15th, 1949 in Salt Lake City to Kenneth Jack and Jessie Francom Olsen. She married the love of her life Larry Bennett Sowby on May 17th, 1971 and they were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on March 20th, 1976.
Multiple Sclerosis and the recent cancer diagnosis could not dim Bonnie’s sweet spirit. Instead, it displayed the brilliance of her will, faith, love and yes, even her sass.
Family was always at the core of Bonnie’s heart. The family she was born into, the family she fought to have with Larry, and the family she continued to grow with every kind-hearted inquiry.
Bonnie loved working with children. In addition to wrangling her own handful she worked with several elementary school programs teaching reading, math and art. She loved to see children gain a new perspective and see their faces light up after understanding a new (and sometimes hard-won) concept.
Bonnie was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Such joy was brought into Bonnie’s life while serving alongside her sisters and brothers in her many church callings.
Bonnie is survived by her children Anthony Sowby, Jeremy (Ada) Sowby, Cindy Sowby, Melanie Sowby, Courtney (LaNette) Sowby; her siblings Connie (Ed) Livingston, Jack (Chris) Olsen, David (Dawna) Olsen, DeAnn (Ron) Carter, Jaclyn Olsen, Brent (Jill) Olsen and her Grandchildren; Valerie, Emily, Jeffrey, Alex, Randy, Jezabelle and Damian.
She is preceded in death by her husband Larry, parents Jack and Jessie, brother Larry J. and grandson Vaughn.
The family would like to thank the staff at Superior Home Care and Hospice for their support and friendship throughout her final days. We would also like to thank the Atlas Healthcare staff for their years of service and comfort.
The viewing will take place on Thursday June 3rd from 6-8:00 pm at the Lake Ridge 3rd ward, 7960 Dalesend Dr, Magna, Utah, 84044. The funeral service will be held on Friday June 4th at 11:00 am, with an additional viewing one hour prior at the same location. Interment will follow at Memorial Lake Hills Cemetery, 10055 S State St Sandy, Utah, 84070.
