Bonnie Faye (Sandy) Kilpatrick

April 3, 1941 — September 26, 2020

Our dear sweet Sandy passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2020 at the age of 79 from a brief illness after enduring many years of health issues following a serious vehicle accident. She battled COVID in July and seemingly won, but the lasting toll on her body and separation from loved ones left her unable to fight her final fight. Though we expected another miracle, that was not to be. Her passing leaves a gaping hole in our hearts.
Sandy was a bright light, with a sharp wit, sassy charm, vivacious spirt and gracious heart. She was our mom, grandma, sister, aunt, and friend who loved deeply and unendingly.  She had a flair for the dramatic and loved a good entrance.  She enjoyed spending time with her children and many grandchildren as often as possible.  She was tenacious, imaginative and her strength of spirit amazed all those around her. She lived all over the world as a youth, but her greatest wish was to come home to Utah to be with her family; we will cherish the last three years we have spent loving and caring for her.
Sandy was born to Major Donald Wise and Bonnie Jean Eacho on April 3, 1941 in Spokane, Washington.  She was named for her mother but carried the life-long nickname of “Sandy” for her beautiful childhood hair.  She lived a hard life as a “military brat” in the post WWII era, and traveled with her family to Japan, Germany, and all over the United States during her childhood. Sandy grew up as the oldest of four siblings; also having an older sister who died in infancy and half-sister who found her in 2019. She attended 33 schools, sang for the USO, climbed Mount Fuji, and crossed an ocean on a ship alone during her youth, to be raised by her grandparents and aunt in the States. She met and married Jerry D. Werttemberger at age 17, had four children, and later divorced.   She married James R. Kilpatrick, Sr., adding one more child to the clan.
There is so much that can be said about her life to capture it all; she retired from Hertz/Penske as a Controller, she drove truck with her husband Jim, remodeled old homes, had many grand plans, and loved Netflix.  She loved antiques, was sentimental to a fault, loved Christmas and throwing Halloween parties for her grandchildren.  She loved all things yellow, Spring, daisies, and roses. She taught her children to cook and sew and had many special talents; on the scale of 1-10, she was an 11. She had a thirst for adventure and loved to travel and relish in the travel stories of others. She worked multiple jobs as a single mom, raised her small children, and still found time to act in and direct local theatre productions.  In the sunset of her life she desired to go through the temple and made that happen, and we are grateful to be her forever family.
She is survived by her children, Kori (Alex) Castillo, Scott (Kim) Kilpatrick, Karol (David) Jensen, David Werttemberger (Jodi Smith), and James Kilpatrick, Jr. (Sandra Perkins), sisters Edith “Dede” (David) Burton, Dorothy “Dottie” Hendricks, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.  Preceded in death by her husband, James Kilpatrick, Sr., parents, siblings Donna Wise, Michael Wise, and John Wise.
Mom fought hard through her struggles, and we wish to thank Dr. Adam Nebeker and the entire team at Intermountain Layton Clinic, for their excellent care and concern for her, as well Julie Tew and the team at Rocky Mountain Care – Clearfield, who cared for her daily and offered their continued support.
