Bobbie Lee Mcafee Hurst

Bobbie Lee, 92, was born June 30, 1925 in Electra, Texas to Robert Baber McAfee and Texas Pearl Evans McAfee. Bobbie passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who praised her name for her goodness. Bobbie was alert and full of the joy of living to the very end, and concerned about the welfare of others to her last breath.
Bobbie grew up in the panhandle of Texas during the Depression, and retained the Art of Thrift because of it, and just a touch of that sweet southern lilt in her voice that charmed all who knew her.
She met her husband, Quinton Ralph Hurst when he was sent to Texas during WWII, and they fell in love and moved away from her beloved home, but she remained true to Texas and was ever one of the sweetest roses of Texas. Though Quint and Bobbie later divorced, she said she was forever grateful to him for giving her the Gospel of Jesus Christ and ten children, to whom she was devoted.
Bobbie was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, serving in various capacities, and always with a generous heart and loving hand. She served an LDS mission at the Atlanta, Georgia Temple and served as an Ordinance Worker at the Jordan River Temple for many years. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She lived very close to the spirit and felt the Lord’s hand guiding her through life’s joys and trials. She had great compassion for everyone she met and was an angel among women.
Her children and grandchildren adored her because she loved them first. They always knew there were cookies in the jar, pancakes on the griddle, fresh bread in the oven, and other wonderful treats when they came to visit. She always remembered all the birthdays of her children, their spouses, and all the grandchildren. She made a special effort to attend programs at school, church and in the community to support the children’s many talents.
Bobbie could make something special out of next to nothing, and loved taking her children and grandchildren on picnics. Her favorite spot was Ledgemere picnic grounds in Big Cottonwood canyon, and she could be ready with a feast at a moment’s notice, complete with homemade root beer and the biggest watermelon in the store. She watched happily as the children ran around the campground, played in the stream, and climbed the rocky crags above the picnic area.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Bill, sister, JoAnn Williams, son, Joseph William “Lee” (D’Ann), daughter, Pearl Lorraine Blair Chapman, grandsons, Tony Blair and Bryant Hurst, and great-grandson, Ethan Boam. She is survived by loving children, Quinton Ralph (Laura) Hurst, Myrna (Lee) Boam, Hazel (Cecil) Loving, Arlene (David) Mower, BJ (Karen Kittle) Hurst, Hal (Julie) Hurst, Jed (Mary) Hurst, and Glen (Karen) Hurst; 34 grandchildren, 74 great-grandchildren, and 5 great great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the West Jordan Heritage Stake Center (7350 South 3200 West, West Jordan, UT). Viewings will be held Thursday from 6:30 – 8:00 PM and Friday at 10:00 AM. Interment, Memorial Redwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.
